I can't abandon any forum that can get lab grade horse blood across the country in 48 hours with no notice. That's just the stuff of legend.

Because I would like to communicate reasonably well, and sometimes when I re-read it, I realize it just doesn't sound like whatever the heck was in my head. OR, my (blankety-blank) spell check on my mobile phone has decided it is time for it to express its opinion and indwell my writing like a poltergeist. It takes a moment, but I feel better about what I post. Still miss the mark sometimes, but at least I try.
Seriously, what, where and how?

It's in your profile preferences.

In a way, it's kind if redundant. It sort of just repeats what you've already written, which is annoying.

But it formats it slightly differently, and can't edit, so it makes me read it with a different view. Not sure why that is, but it works for me.

I've been trying to decide if the change in tone I felt was people/topics on the forum changing or just my desire to it up with shenanigans reducing over the past 1-3 years. Now I know its probably a bit of both.
Ive noticed a lot of pilling on that occurs and the assumption that everyone gets all the inside jokes. In general I think in the 10+ Years I've been in this community respect for others has went from best on the net to just better then others. I don't think that 5 years ago the hotlink thread would exist. That's 2500+ pages of this community being incredibly disrespectful to someones opinion. We've blatantly chased off Mguar and others who tried to contribute and I just don't remember that level of disrespect in the past.
I definitely find myself deleting posts before posting more now then before. Again though some of that is personal changes over the last few years but I've had threads and conversations go south more lately that I did not expect that response from the community.

I am not sure if I agree.

If the purpose is to disseminate car information, you would be right. But I could get that from any encyclopedic type or manufacturer's website. I would only go for the facts, and is be gone pretty quickly.

If the purpose is to build a community around car enthusiasts, then I completely disagree with you. Building community mandates communicating and connecting about other things as well, with the common thread that we all like cars.

It would be like a family reunion that everyone was only allowed to talk about one subject. Yikes!!

My solution to that is that I have never once been in the hotlink thread. Problem solved (and 2500 pages of unnecessary trash reading avoided).

The Hotlink Thread hardly means anything remotely related to the original poster's opinion anymore.

It's no reading, either.

It's just 2500 pages of cool pictures. 80% of it is awesome car porn.

Yes but its the idea that we took a legitimate opinion and turned it into 2500 pages of making that opinion seem ridiculous. If we wanted a cool hotlinking thread we could of just started one. We chose the disrespectful route and repurposed the OP platform to spite them.

Mquar had some sweet cars and a lot of knowledge...he just had REAL thin skin I think. When this thread first started up I'll admit the whole ordeal with him popped in my head. I would have liked to see him stick around and tone it down a little, but he caught A LOT of E36 M3, so I'm not surprised he left.

OP is still here. It's ok.

That thread is REALLY old and 90% of the people posting in there have no idea how it even started. If it offends you that badly, i'm sure one of the mods might consider changing the title.

This is correct. It takes a LOT to be escorted out the door. Much less to leave on your own.

I was away for a bit when he left, and the story is hard to trace due to the deleted posts. He was always trying to start pissing matches with how much he knew and things like that, if I remember correctly.

Yeah we didn't chase off mguar. I think most of us gave him a lot of leeway. He was very...combative and would go off on rants about how much he hates the banking system spontaneously. He had a lot of great knowledge and I could have put up with him...but I'm surprised nobody actually dropped the banhammer on him before he left.

Only person I can think of who was actually banned was a dude building a T-rex type tricycle, who had the attitude of a Pirate4x4 user and the knowledge of a VWvortex user

I think the fact that many of us are still ringing our hands over a guy who left mostly due to his own silliness from four years ago shows how good we are at not doing the things the OP was saying. Obviously they happen sometimes, but not that often as evidenced by our rose-colored-Mguar-glasses.

A few have been banned over the years. Tricycle guy, snowdoggie(?), some dude that came on here and really insulted some of the staff going all scorched earth and just really being over the top, but that's the only ones I can remember. I thought mquar deleted all his post and left on his own, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Sometimes, you just have to take a break from things and that includes online forums. I've probably been on here long enough by now to be part of the problem , it's still one of the forums I visit regularly but I also take breaks from the forum and avoid some of the pissing match contest threads.

It does take effort to be welcoming and friendly, especially if you are dealing with people who'd be told in other forums that they should just go away and use the search. So before I get too annoyed, I just take a couple of steps back...

Either way, this is still one of the friendly corners of the web and we as "the natives" have it in our hands to keep it that way.
