Turkey Day 2

I usually use all the old gravy with the leftover cornbread dressing and a good portion of turkey pieces to make Turkey & Dressing soup, but since I had turkey for Thanksgiving too this time I decided to make turkey chili. Much better use of old turkey.

Hot turkeys, fries and gravy today.

I think I'll make some turkey Chili tomorrow.

We did something different for Christmas dinner at our place. No turkey, we had bacon cheeseburgers.

My mom did make a huge turkey, so we still get leftover soup today.

I suggest trying something a bit different for Christmas. It's a tasty change.

Next year, we do Mexican.

If it's Mexican then you've got to have tamales.

I don't know why and none of my Mexican friends can tell me more than we always do that.

We've done Mexican before and we discussed doing that next year too. You can still get your familial cooking extravaganza fix with Mexican.

My wife's family celebrate Christmas eve.

Their traditional Christmas dinner is sausages, sauerkraut, potato salad, and wheat beer.

we had a lamb roast

Can't stomach lamb. I've tried it a multitude of ways and it still has a lamb flavor.

There is only one place I can eat lamb, they have grilled cutlets that taste like beef.

Same thing with salmon or other oily fishes, just can't take them. For most of my life I thought I didn't like fish.

I only found out I like fish a few years ago.

I grew up eating salmon croquettes and fresh water fish- hated them all. One day I tried swordfish and I was hooked. After experimentation I found out I like SEAfood, not freshwater food.

Hmm a seafood Thanksgiving &/or Christmas sound cool. Less filling and different. Cook the things you normally don't cook cause they cost too much or take too much prep time. Gotta go start lobbying for that next year right now.

Steaks.

My family's x-mas "dinner" is usually kind of a" come in and grab some ham and scalloped taters" sorta thing, since it's impossible to get us all together at the same time...

Since a few of my buddies have the same problem, we all get together and throw some food together after our dysfuntional family gatherings.

This year, I made my jambalaya, and another guy brought chicken gumbo.

Next year, we're gonna do a crab boil.

My sister and her in-laws (all Catholic) have a traditional seafood meal on Christmas eve. And when you have six families and the matriarch supplying the delicious goods, anyone in the vicinity is waddling away stuffed to the gills - pun intended. It's awesome!!!!!

If only I lived closer.............
