The latest Jay Leno Garage video on Youtube is about a 1972 Dino 'restomod', with a 400hp Ferrari V8 instead of the original V6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnt0DNqJYvM I was just reading about this car in the current issue of Octane a couple days ago, and since the owner (David Lee) has been in a number of Jay's videos with his other Ferraris I figured this one would be featured soon.
love the rims.
I am actually a bigger fan of the Fiat Dino twins than the Ferrari Siblings

I remember when I was fresh out of college in the early 90s the local collector car dealership had a Dino for $26K. I of course didn't have anything close to that, but I still can't get over what a bargain that would have been.
I remember when a stock Dino was in the mid teens used. Of course when I was paying $1,500 for a decent X1/9 that might as well been a few hundred thousand. It's still one of the most beautiful cars ever.
This car narrowly edges out Duster's Duster for quickest trip to AngryCorvairBonerTown.

When I was fresh out of college in the late 70s they were even cheaper, but I didn't have any money either.

Dino with a Ferrari V-8? Perhaps the most excellent automotive related idea ever.
I too like this project. I had the fear that it would be a Chevy or Ford engine in it. I am far from being a purist but those cars don't need to be Camaro or mustang poweed

Well only one of them needs an assistant with a fire extinguisher to start safely...
You can still pick up the fiat versions relatively cheaply, mostly because they have all been stripped of that expensive v6 to keep the Ferrari Dino's running. The fiats are also front engine rear drive, so that opens up a lot of swaps
I'd like to see a recreation of this---- because you know....Dinos are so common.
After all, a "proper" Ferrari has to have a V12 right?

i'm amazed at the build recipe. F40 (!) block, bored for 3.6L, titanium rods and a custom crank, 348 heads and ITBs. yum.
but sweet jesus does it come at a price. an estimated $1M.
Amazing build... and it leaves the question "How awesome does a modified Ferrari have to be before Ferrari corporate admits they like it?" still unanswered. I'm not sure how they can bring themselves to disapprove of one built to this level - it looks almost as if Ferrari had kept the Dino in production and just kept upgrading it.
