Out of curiosity what does "cheap and mass produced" mean by '80s Ferrari standards? I always assumed the Testa was the high-end halo car of its era since it's such an iconic design.

How many years was the Fwd Elan in production? I do find this funny....still surprised to hear the Testarossa as being cheap and mass produced lol.

512 TR Production started: 1991. Production ended: 1994. Total production: 2,280, 50 RHD (38 ABS). First serial number: 89100. Last serial number: 99743.

They built 3800 between '89-'93 and then another 800 in 1996 after Bugatti bought Lotus and realized they had a massive stockpile of parts lying around, IIRC. There were several different bodystyle revisions & configurations in that time too. (Mine is probably one of ~50 in its specific body type.)
Weird to think my cheap little FWD runabout is a "rare exotic sports car."
Edit: and Kia(!) made a bunch under license too, but nobody seems to have any concrete idea how many they built. Possibly another thousand, probably less.

I'll bet the Diablo doesn't have a very good HVAC system, Sir Mix-A-Lot must have been baking in that fur coat.

Totally agree on the Lambo/'Rossa comparison. I had one friend whose dad had a Countach, it was uncomfortable and felt like a kit car. Another friends dad had a TR, it was pleasant to ride in and just felt solid.
Funny story on the yellow choice. My friends TR was yellow. It may have been the first one in the US, it was definately the first one ordered through Lake Forest in Chicago. When he said he wanted yellow they made him put an extra large deposit down in case he didn't like it when it showed up and they were stuck with it. IIRC it was built the month Enzo died in Aug of '88
Saw a few sales at 105k but most are listed at 150k plus. Sadly will remain a dream...

A couple of years ago I was leaving work in my Cayman S, at a traffic circle a Testarossa happened to be in front of me when I merged. Well, two flat mid engined cars did what they do. The sound of the flat 12 singing a duet with my flat 6 is what dreams are made of.
Interesting that they are very similar stats albeit 30 years apart.
