brainstorming/internet researching cheap sources for deck motors for an electric riding mower project.
-The Series motors I already have, by design, don't hold constant rpm
-fan motors are wimpy
-surplus center is sold out of the actual lawn mower deck motors that inspired this stupidity
-car starter motors are series motors
-converted alternators require a controller.
grrrrrrr.
So basically I'm drinking.

What? They all deserve presents!
Put some 31's on the Rover today. Looks purty, but needs a little lift on the front.
Just finished ordering new wheels and tires for the Miata. My Visa card was starting to smolder a bit, so I'm using it as a coaster as I type this. Hopefully a couple cold beers will cool it down.

I wanna put 33's on the Cruiser. It's got lift enough for 35's, apparently, but I think that's just too much.

What about a washer or dryer motor?

I need DC, permanent magnet, 1/2-3hp, decent shaft size and length or a good pulley setup, ~ 3600 rpm at somewhere between 12 and 36 volts, and really really cheap. Unfortunately, I think washer/dryer motors are AC and really high voltage. I will give them a look.
DC permanent magnet steady RPM motors? Hit a forklift junkyard and look for hydraulic pump motors. You might wind up with 48 volt instead of 36, but is that so bad? A big one in the Southeast: http://www.atlantaliftruck.com/parts.php
Washing machine motors are AC so you'd need a converter. Might work but it's complex & possibly expensive.
Or you could just keep drinkin'.

Not a bad idea-I have a few in the garage but they are female shaft, so no use for this project.
