Marvin Gaye: Mercy Mercy Me
In 1971 I drove with friends from school from RI to Daytona for Spring Break. Back in those days I-95 in the South didn't go all the way through as it does today. You had to pass through secondary roads and small towns for a pretty good distance. Anyway, I was doing my stint driving, it was around 5:00 am and I was lost somewhere on a quiet country road in Georgia, four other guys asleep in the car, and this song was playing on the radio. Every time I've heard it since then that's what comes to mind. It's a very pleasant memory.
This is Marvin performing Mercy Mercy Me and What's Goin' On at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1980:

Great songs. Great artist.
Back on the Brooklyn Rhythm & Blues Project. Really great stuff.

Carole King: Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow ... with a little help from James Taylor:

Recorded live at the Troubadour in LA a few years ago. Really good stuff.
This is an unbelievable performance by two complimentary artists.
James Taylor: You've got a friend.
JT in the lead with Carole King in backup:

Geez, I remember when JT looked like this back in the seventies! But this video morphs into modern day (2010) at the defunct Troubadour night club in LA. Excellent mix. I don't know about anyone born after 1970, but for my generation, I think this is pretty good stuff.
Has anyone noticed that Clint Black is awesome?
Just listened to 'good run of bad luck', 'a bad goodbye', 'a better man', 'killin time', 'we tell ourselves' and 'halfway up'. Great stuff.

Good call. Love me some Carole King.

I agree. They are excellent. I'd never heard of them until you started posting them on this thread a while back. The core band and the music seem so American. But after doing a little research it turns out that "Brooklyn" is really "Breukelen" in the Netherlands. So unless they schedule a US tour, unfortunately I don't think I'll be catching a live concert ... which I really wanted to see.
I too, love their "Honey Jar" (which toyman01 previously posted):

So I must say, I really like this thread because it has introduced me to new artists and new music that everyone has offered (Brooklyn Rhythm & Blues Project is a good example), while allowing me to share with you some of my quirky (and ancient) favorite music.
Amy Lee; The whole Aftermath album.
Steve Tyrell: Sunny Side of the Street
Steve Tyrell is a very talented jazz singer, composer and producer with a Grammy to his credit. More recently he was a regular lounge performer at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC. Great raspy mature voice and can sing the American classics as well as (or better than) Sinatra did when he was at his best!

Tony Desare: All of Me
So here's a thirty-something singer who's found the American classics. Voice not yet matured to the level of say, SteveTyrell or Sinatra in his later years, but seems to have very good potential. So there is hope ... in my opinion.

Another American classic by young guy Tony:

And a little more American-style classic music by young guy Tony. (To put it in context, this one is like a reproduction of a vintage Can Am race car):

I said baby mama, I don't know your name But I said baby, sugar I can play your game Every night when we leave the hall I see you hanging around You wanna ride in my big black car baby Wanna go uptown
[Chorus] I know who you are baby I know what they call you girl Never put you down baby I'm just like you baby, I'm on the hunt
I know lady People gonna talk about you and me Let me say one thing mama, sugar I do as I please And if you wanna love me baby, I'm your man And all those high-falutin' society people I don't care if they don't undertand
[Chorus]
My daddy told me a long time ago
Said there's two things son
Two things you should know
And in these two things you must take pride
That's a horse and woman, yeah
Well both of them you ride
