see you guys have cool jobs. i never knew there was such a job as a certified vibration analyst....how does one become one

Most come through the ranks from millwrighting or instrumentation. I was a mechanical engineering technologist and greeeeeeeen when I started. But I was part of a really good department and my coworkers were very good and patient trainers. Now I'm the mentor for a younger crew and love that part of my job. The actual work can feel like you're making license plates all day long though. Training and troubleshooting make me happy though. The routine contract analysis is an acquired taste. You have to be the right kind of crazy to look at spectrum and wave form plots all day long. Every day. Forever......

Thanks for the pick-me-up!

Stocking.
The hours suck, doesn't pay as well as the internet would lead you to believe, and we get to deal with the worst people on Earth (Canucks)... but it mostly allows me to do my Jiu Jitsu and play some Rugby. Mostly.

Not arcing as far as we could detect. Bad connection at the fuse holder. The lead was pretty charred already.

Just ASSumed arcing based on the temperature. Pretty toasty. I'm not a "what it is you do", but I've seen similar pics from a few places. Nobody who showed them to me mentioned arcing in their diagnoses either.

Those IR cameras make fast work of steam trap surveys too. Fun stuff.

In 2012 I received reported taxable income from:

  1. Making car magazines

  2. Building camera motion and support gear for indie filmmakers

  3. Telling jokes

  4. Shooting pistols

Number 1 puts food on the table, and the rest are mostly for fun. 2 sort of pays for 4, and 3 is a nice way to express a lot of the stuff that is too offensive for 1. With the exception that it leaves little time for sleep, it's not such a horrible life.

I can't find one thing in this picture that isn't awesome. I'd say it's the sailboat, but then someone would probably tell me Slayer was on board and prove me wrong.
