Ah, crap.  I have to change my vote.   Can-Am and F5000 races at Road America beat tube tops...

Ya but put together tube tops and big hair and mini skirts and I would forget what a race car was.

Still have a set of Jarts.  We should get a tournament together.  Would give new meaning to the phrase, "last man standing".

Why can't you have big hair, mini skirts, tube tops, AND race cars?

For me in the 70s, that was considered foreplay.

Banana seat bikes and having nothing to do all day but ride them.... anywhere we wanted as long as we were home by the time the street lights came on.   I spent most of my youth playing in the cemetery, or on the railroad tracks that lead behind the Ford plant where we jumped our minibikes .... and oddly never got chased off.  I assume that does not happen today.

On the racing theme- Jungle Pam Hardy

Also, still have my Jarts as well. I've heard that ebay won't even let you sell an empty Jart box. Not sure if that's true or not, just something I heard. Probably on the internet...

I hadn't looked, just something I heard somewhere.

Mine got put away many years ago after a couple of my buddies decided that "Chicken" Jarts would be even more fun.

There might have been some Jack Daniels involved......

Anybody get a pile of freinds together with one kid in the middle with a Jart. Then he'd launch it straight up and everyone would run for their lives?

I was thinking more along the lines of getting a chicken and tossing Jarts in the air around it.  Whoever hits the chicken doesn't have to clean and pluck it.

With my buddies, it was whoever was last to run, won.

Not being a Jack drinker myself, I thought maybe it would be best to put them away.

I am a bit surprised that there is more discussion regarding Jarts than Jungle Pam, btw.

I miss heading out on my bike in the Summer and not coming home until dusk.  No cell phones or computers.  Instead,  we had  slingshots, swimming in rock quarries, toilet papering houses, pool hopping, and an occasional fistfight.    Good clean fun......the kind that today would get you thrown in jail.  sad

I feel that the eradication of good clean fun happened just a few years ago. I think it was around 2011 or 2012 when they started calling cops to my middle school for stuff like diving out of the first floor window onto the lawn, and settling friendly disputes the old-fashioned way, and the dumb bathroom graffiti that many middle-schoolers engaged in.

I still do that from time to time on my road bike. I'll roll out my front door with only a rough idea of where I'm going.  Six to eight hours and sometimes 100+ miles later, I return.  While mtn biking is something I tend to do with friends, road riding is my "me time".  If the weather cooperates, I plan to do this on Sat.

Ocean City, NJ?  I spent a summer or two there in the early 2000's.  Fun little town, then.  Good memories.

Was I that obvious? I grew up in the shadow of the 34th street Bridge. Way down south in the "sticks"

Just me! I entered college (1979) when the big movie was Animal House, my family was in Real Estate and put me in a house across from the college to avoid out of district fees (huge house, 7 bedrooms that I turned into a flophouse/party barn) while I was manager of the local pizza place one block away that sold beer with an 18 year old drinking age, there was no AIDS or "Just Say NO". The first half of the 70s kinda sucked until I got a 6 inch growth spurt in 78.

Me too. My grandfather was a mechanical, tinkering, GRM kinda guy who could build something outta nothing. He'd haul a load of scrap to the junkyard and return w/ JY fresh build material for the next project.

No doubt I inherited my mechanical gene from grandpa... also the drinking gene, me thinks.
