Saw a Chevy Yukon with a QUDRASTR license plate the other day. I forgot that 2002 - 2005 GM offered 4WS on many full-size trucks and suvs. Some are still out there, crab-walking away!

Those things were so expensive new, but so cool. You can slot a Quadrasteer Sierra into a cramped parking garage like it's a Pontiac Vibe.

Amazed that it still works. The Quadrasteer usually packs it in about 6 months after they left the dealership. And now all the components are discontinued, so when it dies, it's dead for good

4WS sounds like such a great idea, but I can only imagine alignments are a pain in the ass.

In reply to Grtechguy:

In this case it's actually pretty normal, as Quadrasteer is electrically operated and linked to both speed and steering wheel angle.

I have it on my Suburban and it has been basically trouble free and awesome in the last 5 years I have had the truck. Now at 151k miles, I have replaced only the rear outer tie rod ends. It is as maneuverable as an Accord.

I have one with over 300k. 2003 sierra Denali. Quadrasteer works fine. It is the single best option I have ever had on a truck. With it on it can turn as tight as my corolla. Makes driving in the city easy. When I get my next truck I am definitely getting another one with quadrasteer.

Oh and the other cool option my truck also has is the magnetic rear shocks. Empty with them turned off it rides like a Cadillac. Turn them on and you are back to riding like a truck. A very nice feature that takes a bit of the "truckness" out of the truck. Between the quadrasteer and the shocks it is an excellent DD that can tow and hall alot of weight when needed.

Oh and the quadrasteer means you have a dana60.

Actually quite the opposite. Simple in fact.

I think both these statements a not true. I asked the dealer about this and was told the are still stocking parts. And or replacement units. Also I was told that they very rairly saw them in for quadrasteer problems.

One of Us bought a Quadrasteer equipped SUV because someone put 5.5 gallons of oil in it instead of 5.5 quarts and it wasn't running right and was blowing oil everywhere.

I work for GM. Seen three or four come through the door, and another five or six in the wild. Only one encountered one that actually still worked. Eventually that one came in one day and the Quadrasteer had stopped working because the module internally failed. We called around everywhere and GM has discontinued making the module, no one makes a new one and no one, at least not that we could find, rebuilds the module. So now the guy is stuck with an axle that has all these extra parts, like the rack and tie rods, that occasionally go bad and need to be replaced, but don't actually do anything. Last we saw him, he was planning to stab a regular rear axle under it, same with another customers that hasn't worked since he started coming here.

There's got to be someone able and willing to repair them. We send controllers out to various places all the time, when our local guy down the street is too busy to do it.

The problem is that the module is located under the vehicle, so here in the north country the aluminum case corrodes and it gets full of water and destroys the thing.

funny story of why these trucks all have cab lights. if a vehicle is over 80" wide (like duallys) then they are required to have cab lights. these trucks, with the wheels straight, are less then 80" wide but with the rear tires at full lock they cross the 80" mark requiring the cab lights.

atleast that's what i've heard

Are we sure its working and not just stuck in that position? Ok JK.

If the steering mechanism goes out, there are stacks of Belleville washers on each end of the rack that center the steering automatically.

A dead quadrasteer axle is just a very heavy normal drive axle then.

Tehcnically this also has V8, 4WD and 4WS.

Does that mean that Quadrasteer trucks are just mini monster trucks?
