I agree with this. At that age behavior is correctable. The child is acting out for a reason. The police, with handcuffs, are not equipped to divine that reason nor should they be expected to. This child needs help and not the kind that comes from handcuffs. Six years old is not an age where someone can't have their life course corrected by the right people.

I think thats why juvenile officers and SROs exist.

Resource Officers are great and all, but I feel that schools shouldn't need them. I think schools are a good indication of where society will be in a few years, especially if you look at the high school kids. Sure they grow up, but a lot of them don't.

Yeah, pretty much. Being that I was only a sub, I didn't feel that it was worth minimum wage to have kids hit me and have no meaningful recourse. As a sub, there's less you can do than as a teacher. At least as a teacher, there's a possibility that you can actually talk to the parents.

Issues like what is at hand with this 6 year old are why I refused anything lower than 3rd grade. When reason is all you have to keep a kid from beating up another kid, it helps if they are old enough to reason
