Which will only support the argument of so many that the flag stands for bigotry.

The grave was already dug; the KKK is just helping shovel the dirt.

Only if we can start one side on the Syrian side and the other on the Iraqi side......tell them each they get to kill as many of the other side as they want, so long as they go through the true douchebags first(ISIS)

BOOM, three birds with one stone.

I'm pretty sure all of the slave masters are long dead.

The sociological divide between North and South goes way, way back to the people that first settled the areas.

Read "Albion's Seed" for a bit of background. The framework laid down by the earliest waves of European settlers is still influencing social relations and politics hundreds of years later.

Also, for a bit of levity, which I hope is not in poor taste, I saw a comment that said something like: "Distracted the rednecks with the Confederate Flag debate and passed gay marriage."

It made me giggle.

And now TV Land has pulled reruns of "The Dukes of Hazzard". Yes all this hysteria makes perfect sense...

I just remarked yesterday to my brother-in-law how TV Land will soon have to stop with Dukes re-runs because there is a certain flag on the roof of a certain car.

I am amazed at our stupidity.

Really. Bo and Luke Derek? Can't tell the difference between a hood and a roof. Journalists are the bottom of the barrel.

Are we really losing anything as a society not having the Duke Boys on TV?

Confederate flag or not, the show sucks. I think we could all gain a few IQ points by avoiding it.

We'll always have Daisy Duke shorts though

Well... in their defense, the Limeys call the hood the bonnet, the trunk the boot and the roof... the hood. Perfectly understandable, as the Charger is British. Derek for Duke... I got nothin'. They are idiots.

All this crap will die down. I still do not like the idea of the Confederate flag flying over a government building such as the State House, but in a historical context over Fort Sumter? I don't see a problem with that. People want to fly it on their private property, put it on bumper stickers hats etc? Go right ahead. There was a T shirt popular during the 'Malcolm X' period of the 1990's:

I see nothing wrong with 'Black Power' T shirts, either.

Freedom cuts both ways in the private arena.
