Now that is one killer looking baja bug. I don't think I could convince the girl friend into letting me go that extreme with a car she is wanting to buy herself lol.

If it's not rusting completely away, that seems like a fair price. I want to build one, it's becoming pretty clear that if I really want to do that I better get on it, as the old/good ones are getting harder to come by.
I'd take the car and the 1600, personally. :)
1600 FTW. A motor's just a glorified air pump in the first place..the better you can get the air in & out, the more power you can find.
Almost every bug I've ever had was bought at less than $100 in a condition very similar to this:
After a week or so of work and usually under a grand 9thanks to VW swap meets and cheap new trim parts), they'd look like these:
The only one that cost more than $100 to start with was my Baja, that I bought for $500.
I've built over 30 custom air cooled VWs, and they've all been fun and profitable...
Well I went and looked at the '63 and it was in fairly bad shape and he changed from including all the extra parts to wanting money for them as well. So that alone made me walk on it.
However yesterday I spotted a '72 a bit closer to home that I might call about.
