Why do those guys doing the test drives NEVER wear seat belts.  Yeah, I have that kind of time to notice that.

Most the time they're driving up and down a back part of the parking lot at the auction venue, but I guess they do get out on the street once in a while.

Probably has to do with the value of some of the cars.  Something they can break, scuff.  Especially considering a lot of these cars are (sadly) rarely driven.

Some of the older cars only have lap belts, or no belts at all.

Some owners might not want their NOS date-coded numbers-matching 1 of 23.5 belt removed from its factory wrapping or, heaven forbid, the buckle scratched.

That bugs me about Roadkill, too.  Although some of the beaters they are messing with probably don’t have seat belts.

I also cringe every time I see them jump or wheelie without a neck brace.

Actually, the guys driving are shown out in traffic so they are on the public streets, or if it is a back lot there is a lot of traffic for back lots.  Most times you can see their waist so if the car only had lap belts, you would be able to see them.

While I do appreciate the low number cars owners not wanting their cars showing any sign ot use, these guys doing the driving are still breaking the laws.  It I was still with the PD and saw them, I would cite them in a heart beat!   Of course the $25 ticket ( in Georgia ) wouldn't be a big deal to them.

Not even that, it's just unsafe. You slide around a ton without belts, especially on vinyl.

Oh, I agree that seatbelts are a good thing.   3-points are better.  Full racing harnesses might be better still, but you're never going to get compliance with them.  We can't even get compliance on child car seats, even when they give them away.

I added seatbelts to my first car, which would now be a classic (1963 Chevy Belair), and replaced the old seatbelts with three-point belts in my '64 Valiant.  I don't move a car - even just in or out of the garage - without buckling up.

It does bother me when I see things like that on television, just as it bothers me seeing people welding without a hood or welding glasses (Just squint or turn away!), using angle grinders without guards, or riding on forklift loads on darn near every car-build show.   You'd think OSHA could shut them down pretty quickly, given the very public evidence, but there's probably some entertainment business exemption.

It will change.

All the home improvement show used to show people not wearing safety glasses. They do now. Usually hard hats too.

OK< so NEVER was perhaps too strong.  Today he was driving a Gallardo and did have his seat belts on. But then in the red AMX, no seatbelts! From what I was able to find, seatbelts were standard on the AMX.

Everything after 1967 required lap belts.
