My daughter works at Hobby Lobby. While they've not yet enacted any local travel restrictions here, many other stores have closed voluntarily.

Yup, that's when the welfare and safety check is made.
A fun world that we live in now isn't it?
In reply to Pete Gossett :
Any letter with that much emphasis on prayer and faith while ignoring science from employer right would have me rolling out without notice. If WaffleHouse is closing then any retail operations that don't deal in food or pharmacology need to wise up.
In reply to Pete Gossett :
Prayer Warrior?!?
This is a thing? ( Not religious at all so please don't take it as a criticism )

Construction in general is hard to do with everybody 6 feet away
Nah. The actual guidelines have some pretty big loopholes.
In reply to Antihero :
Apparently so. I fully support people of all faith's beliefs, right up to the point that they blatantly contradict scientific knowledge, encroach on personal freedoms, or negatively impact public safety.

Anyone working for Hobby Lobby who doesn't understand the very strong faith perspective of the company's founder would have to have their head in the sand.

Probably me. I get paid if I sit at home and bing watch TV
Instead I get up and load the bus with food for school kids on the free lunch program. Then drive around and give them their food for the day.
Some of the moms are really grateful. Some of the younger kids take great pride in walking up to the bus and getting their bag.
Past a certain age they don't want to accept it but will take it for their younger brothers and sisters.
But more than 2/3 rds of the meals go back to the kitchen to be recycled. Is it pride? Preference? Or just too lazy to get to the corner by the scheduled time?
While I do my best to protect myself I know I'm exposing myself more than most and if I get it at my age it's likely a death sentence.

You are doing an important job , too bad the extra meals cannot be given to ?????
Stay safe
Here is Indiana's list for essential businesses
https://coronavirus.in.gov/2496.htm
The only thing I'm aware of that was ordered closed that hadn't been already was movie theaters, tattoo parlors, barber shops/salons, and spas.
Pawn shops are probably the dumbest thing still open.

I hope you get through this safely. You're doing a great thing.

WOW , is there anything that is NOT on that list ?
In reply to frenchyd :
I was doing the same as Frenchyd in our county. We were averaging 36% to 80%. Today was the last day for the delivery and we delivered 90%. The SB decide to offer the kids hot lunches but they have to come to one of the schools to get it themselves.
The lunches not given out were taken back out the next day.
FWIW, we stop at the drive ways, not at a corner bus stop.
I second his observation about exposing myself (and my rider) on the bus more than most etc but we wanted to take care of our kids.
In reply to californiamilleghia :
I'm tempted to open the bags and just hand out sandwiches etc anything perishable. The neighborhoods I'm delivering in tend to be very poor but I'm afraid of insulting people offering up handouts of sandwiches etc.
Not to mention increasing my risk of exposure.
I don't because the people preparing those meals do their very best to guess how many people will be at the stop. The feedback helps them guess closer.

We dont have any school buses here. Not in a 20 mile radius that I have seen last 25 years.
the fact that you are going in a bus and giving food - kudos to you
especially since you said you can stay home watch tv and get paid
keep up the good work

I think the reason I could get paid is due to the lack of school bus drivers. This year the least we were short was for a few days we got down to 6 short. Usually closer to 12 short
We're paying expensive mechanics and every office worker including the boss and his wife to drive routes.
We have as many drivers as we do only because we are at the top of wages paid and drive new or near new buses.
Our boss got a head start with all the non-school bus school buses ( for special needs students) he has that can be driven on a regular licenses. There is more than a 20% pay raise if they accept our free training and get a school bus license. In a lot of cases it's pretty much the same bus except white instead of yellow and no 8 way flashing lights. ( School bus stop )
A lot of companies are much worse off forcing their drivers to go out of log book to cover their routes.
there is such a shortage of drivers state wide. And I'm pretty sure nation wide.
same with lunchroom workers.
You'll need to log in to post.
