Crackhead price, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't want to drive it. IMO the only way it could have been better, is if he built it out of a Cimarron and left it stock looking. Talk about a sleeper.....
That thing was a deathtrap with the anemic 4cyl.... Now add in some throttle induced torque/understeer. Sheesh.
I'd drive it at least once.

It always bugs me when someone *expects* to get a project for cents on the dollar. I'm not offended by the price.
People make their living "building" cars for others, and on the few occasions that
- it's actually completed in-house at one place, at one time
- the look and concept is cohesive as that
- the detailing is as good as that,
the invoice usually starts around two to three times the 11,500 figure.
If that was a 2002Ti, no one would blink. Heck if it was a Corvair, no problem.
The trick is, both 2002's and Corvairs are somewhat desireable. I doubt anyone is goin "HOLY E36 M3 A MINT 1G CAVALIER! I GOTTA GET ME SOME OF THAT". Turds are turds, no matter how much you polish them. And give them supercharged motors.
I like it. I've never seen it around town, but then again I don't get up to his corner of the Cities very often.

I am almost ashamed to admit this, but a few weeks ago I did a quick eBay/Craigslist search for an early Z24 and there were approximately none available anywhere.
I don't love them by any means. I actually had one back in the 80's and it was the worst new car I've ever owned. But if I could find one for $1500 that wasn't an absolute pile, it could be kind of fun for a couple of months.
Depends on the fit and finish. It'd be fun.
My wife had an 88 Z24, loved it! I know it was not the best handling car, but it was fun. I'd love to own another...
"I have made love to this machine!"
"...in retrospect I have to ask; why?"
I don't even see how 11.5 is a good price. Maybe 8 if the car is uber clean with no rust. But take theprice of the car and the motor, and it dosnt add up. 3.8 swap is uber easy.
I can feel the tq steer from here.

Ever drive a turbo Omni with a bad motor mount?

You know, you're quite right. Main thing we've learned on this board is that a car is ALWAYS identical to how it was originally manufactured, no matter how well modified it is. Cars can never be equal to or greater than the sum of their new parts and time spent on them.
Oh, wait...

I'll say this, the car actually looks good. It took me a second to realize what it was. Had GM offered a version of the Cavalier back then that actually looked like that... I doubt anything would be drastically different, but they would have at least made a handsome version of the Cavalier.
I'll throw in a couple bonus points to the builder for getting a real 5 speed manual for this motor.
Without driving it, there's no way to know if it's any fun or not, but I wouldn't immediately rule it out.
I'm not offended by the price, but for the same money there was a '67 Chrysler Imperial 4 door hard top on Bring a Trailer (also in black). I know it's apples and oranges, but apparently 11 grand gets you more oranges than apples.

Other than the wheels, that's pretty much what the exterior of an 88 Z24 looked like.

If I was looking for a new DD I could see buying that. The only thing I would change is to put the gray ground effects back on. You can't have a sporty car from the 80's without them.
For that price, needs to be converted to RWD. Nahmean?
