Pro/E or UG mainly at work, design for turbine components. Its customer dependent.

What I really like is Rhino. It is apparently the standard for marine architecture, but it has a great 2D sketcher. There is a free version you can run at home.

Well I have thought about producing the spider as a sculpture. The legs could easily be constructed out of 5 different parts to be articulated. Anyway, I'll send you a PM sometime as I'm definitely curious about the options and cost. The ability to bring digital sculpture into the real world has been on my WANT list for some time now.
