Anyone above 40, even 50 mpg in their daily driver? Seems with all the ingenuity here, there is a likely chance for some real fuel sippers. Should be based on at least a 3 tank average. Anything besides VW diesels?

I used to see more than 40mpg in an '85 CRX DX that I daily drove in the early 90s. Now I only get 34-36mpg in my '07 Fit Sport.

Is it Vigo whom has the first gen Insight? I'd pick that one. Or the guy with the Volt, if you want to roll like that.

(yes, I do ride it year round, every month of the year, not much rain out here in LA LA land)

Equal times in traffic jam and highway, the Yugo got around 40mpg.

My DD Prizm gets ~35, never tried hypermiling it, worst tank ever was 30.5.

I got 41mpg on the highway going to and from the $2012 Challenge in my MX6 GT. Average taken over about 1700 miles.

I typically see about 34-35mpg combined with it. I'm looking to hit 45mpg or more this $2013 Challenge trip with some minor modification. I'm fairly certain i could hit 50mpg with some lean-burn Megasquirt trickery.

I'm banking on hitting 45mpg just by swapping in a numerically lower final drive, which should keep it out of open loop on the highway at 80mph.

My Volt gets infinite "gas" mileage on the commute. I use 1.3 kWh to get to work, and another 1.3 to get home, so 2.6 * 9 cents per kWh gives me 23.4c per day, or 1 /15th of a gallon cost equivalency (based on $3.50/gallon gasoline). With a 12 mile round trip commute, that equals a cost equivalency of 180 mpg. As gasoline goes back up for the summer, that mpg equivalency will only go up.

I'm retired, so no commute. I can get the MINI up to 37-38 mpg on the highway, more during rush hour with the draft.

My regular DD is the C30, I usually only get 25-26 in mixed driving, but to be honest the best I’ve ever seen is 27.5mph. Not great but it is an old tech 5 cyl turbo with torque to make the average V8 blush.

I’m much more impressed with our 2013 Mustang. It’s the hairdresser edition a V6 auto convertible. My wife DD’s it on all city streets and gets around 21-22. This weekend we drove across the state and got almost 30mpg for an average of close to 80mph (actualy77.43mph and 29.9mpg) To average that speed including city streets at each end there were obviously extended periods above that speed. I was massively impressed with that mileage. The return trip wasn’t as good but it was getting late so we weren’t as conservative on our speed.

Disclaimer, this is a made up post and this was really recorded on a closed course not the highway.
