In reply to Keith Tanner:
In my day you ordered a Labatt and you got a "50" by default. Same with ordering a Molson, you got an Export. If you wanted any of their other varieties you had to ask for those by name. So, "gros Mol" or "petite Mol" worked just fine.

I'm 37 and I remember opening cans of tomato sauce and juice concentrate and other things with one of those can openers. It was the COOLEST THING, you hooked the hooky bit on the lip of the can and then you pulled up and it opened a perfect hole in the top of A STEEL CAN!! They always called me over to open the cans because they knew how much I liked doing it.

Towards the end of the use of that style can, someone (finally?) came up with a plastic lid to go over the more common-sized cans, so you could theoretically reseal them instead of having to use it all at once. Or rubberband a sandwich bag over the top.

This is how I remember it

We never drank beer from a can, and I still don't

I don't see anything that I would consider "beer" in that picture.

Red Stripe still comes in stubbies.

The CPI Inflation Calculator says exactly $1. I am suspicious.

Amstel wasn't bad, and Brador sure is beer if you are 15 and looking to get drunk fast (and I did)

Cans of the first two types are still everywhere in the CA/NV desert.

You sayin' I'm a good guesser, chuckles? Not hard, really. 2-3 cents in 1913 (the start of the current Central Bank) is a buck today.

I used to feel that way … but being at the track so much … glass bottles are frowned on
