Based on the reviews I've read in the newspaper it doesn't appear there's very much connection to the original TV show, but it still may be a decent summer rom-com.

I saw a trailer and thought "huh, well at least he's driving a pickup truck."

Name one beloved TV show-to-screen reboot that was any good.

The first Mission Impossible movie is legit.

Rewatch the Fall Guy TV show before you start complaining about the new movie. I tried a few years back, and the original show is terrible. We only remember it fondly because we were dumb kids at the time.

In reply to Will :

I only remember Heather Thomas TBH. There were car stunts as well and the $6M guy too. So if it's mildly amusing with fun stunts involving cool cars I will eventually see it. I won't watch the old TV show until after I see the new movie and so my inner dork will suspend his critique and I can just enjoy something for once.

Remember when vehicles were part of the cast? Fall Guy truck, The General Lee, KITT, the A-Team van, Airwolf? Man, the 80s were great.

It does not look very good from the trailers.

It's Ryan Gosling so it's going to suck.

Never saw the movie. No Holly Robinson, so wasn't interested.

On a lark MS. Frog and I just up and decided to go to the movies in the middle of a hot saturday afternoon.  I picked something "light", "non-serious", and with a "happy ending".  So it was "Fall Guy".

It filled the bill.  It was a wonderful spoof of every action movie you could remember; from Mad Max and Star Wars to Mission Impossible and Fast and Furious.  Then add in a storyline taken from the Hallmark Channel.  wink

And, if you watched carefully it explained how so many famous stunts have been pulled off.  Stay seated for the trailers at the end.

In my opinion it was successful at what it was intended to do.  Entertain.

The thing about Fall Guy, the TV series, is that it would be impossible to find a more wooden leading man, a less realistic premise, or a cheaper stunt vehicle to trash, so the movie can't be worse.

And I liked Fall Guy.

In reply to Streetwiseguy :

Ryan Gosling may be up for that challenge. Followed closely by James Taylor.

I suspect, by the 80's used up Chargers were cheaper than newer Chevy pickups. The current Charger is probably the same.

Truth. He does not really have a very wide dynamic range.

An aside, the Very. Worst. Casting. ever in the history of TV remakes as movies was casting Ralph Fiennes as Steed in the Avengers.  Charming, devil-may-care, cheerful Ralph Fiennes...

BTW, this guy does a pretty decent job of researching various 'famous' vehicles used in TV and movies.

We watched it this weekend. It was mostly fun and brainless. Low expectations going in lead to me not being disappointed

The one thing that kept making me want to turn it off was that damned KISS song.

Why? Why was it played every 5 minutes? Why were there like 3 versions of it? Who thought it was a good enough song to use in that way?

I have a very low KISS threshold. I hate them like the Dude hates the Eagles. That berkeleying song though.

Agreed. It was a fun, lighthearted film that had what a lot of stuff on streaming lacks. There were even a few little tidbits for us 80's kids.

I don't think it sucked, but definitely a case of "don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed"
