Came across this while backing up some photo albums. 1990 Civic DX stock wheels on the left, Corvette stock wheel on the right. We both swapped to sticky tires for the autocross, and I thought this was pretty funny. I spanked him by two seconds. (not!)

Wait, is it scored like golf or like bowling?

I hate to say it, but that picture describes a big part of the reason I have no desire to own a Vette. When your annual tire budget will buy a decent Miata, I have neither the means nor desire to play at that level - regardless of how berkeleying awesome a level it is.

Here is the back tire off my old C6Z next to one off my Miata:

And this is what a 19x12 wheel with 325/30 tires looks under a Miata:

petegossett - You're right about the tires... I thankfully sold the car before having to change them. A new set of Goodyear F1s was around $2000. The nicer Michelins were in the $2300 range.

When I read the title I immediately thought "Two words: BIG TARS"

See also: A big part of the reason I stopped autocrossing. $1200 a year in tires for maybe an hour of seat time doesn't add up for me.

Well, that depends, I've looked into it a bit, and going to an 18" wheel up front and/or not minding anything matching front to rear will greatly reduce the cost. Like rough miata in need of work, or a set of decent truck tires money instead.

Whoa that sounds wrong. On my AE92, A set of tires gets me 60-100 autocross runs with street driving in between.

Street driving Hoosiers isn't a great idea.
