possibly ... yrs ago in a '76 Civic the alternator went out one night in Charlotte and I made it to within 50 mi of Asheville ... ambient temp well below freezing and at night .... ( so heater and headlights )
My zetec focus made it 11 miles before all the electronics went haywire and it shutoff - in my driveway.
I was DD'ing a MGB for a while. Car lunched the alt, and I didnt have money till payday for a new one. I drove all week 60 miles round trip to work and back, charging it at work and at home.
Turns out i was just ahead of the curve on the whole plugging in your roadster after every trip thing. I hear thats all the rage now
As a side note- It did strand me, on friday halfway home. Did fine most of the week though!
This is my race-Spridget. I does not have an alternator.
It will easily run 3 hours per day with various stops and starts on grid....no problem. Sometimes, I'll go into the second day of an event before I realize I've forgotten to charge it.
Runs an oversize electric fuel pump and decent size coil/electronic ignition.
Crappy (inefficient) Lucas starter. No air conditoning or stereo
Running the same $35 WalMart garden tractor battery (275 CCA) for the last two years to save weight.
I once bought a Sprite in Spokane and drove it about 90 miles home to Moscow, ID without a functioning alternator. Of course it was daytime so no lights on, the car did not have a radio, it had a mechanical fuel pump, so the only electrical load was the ignition system. The last few miles it was starting to miss a bit. When I pulled into the driveway it didn't have enough juice to start. It took a few minutes to figure out that the alternator output wire was not hooked up to anything. That car had a Datsun engine and tranny swapped into it, but some of the details had not been worked out yet. I ended up building a voltage regulator from one I bought at NAPA and some parts from Radio Shack.

Say, what? You used to live in Moscow?? Really? I went to school there (and my bro lived there with his family until about 6 years ago)...
Related to this thread- my neighbor blew her motor near Pasco, WA, and limed all the way back home to Moscow. Engine siezed once she shut it off...

Unless his xBox was traded as part of a ransom package!
I made it. I'm pretty sure it died Thursday, but I made it home with a decent sum of money in my pocket.

There were at least 2 reports of stolen xBoxes discussed on this board in the past week, maybe his was a 3rd?

My wife and I are U of I grads. Haven't been there since 1995, except a brief return visit in 1998 for a day or two as part of a Navy boondoggle I arranged. I have fond memories of the place, a lot of which have to do with the friends we made while there. I remembered you were from Idaho Falls, as I went out there for a job interview at INEL a couple years ago and asked about the place on here.
