Oh snap! Nicely played.
My retirement issue; when I worked at the current job the first time around, we had a pension plan. I was laid off, the plan was converted into cash, and handed to me during the severance process (and taxed like a bonus, I believe). I was rehired a year later and lo, the pension plan is no longer available to new employees. What we now get is 4% of our annual gross salary added to our 401K in a corp. stock allotment and we have to be employed for the majority of the year and thru Dec 31 to receive this. The first year I was back I was rehired in August and got nothing.
But don't worry, nearly everyone else I work with still gets the pension plan, so they're covered. The plan is added to monthly and there's no weird calendar year hang-ups.

Jumping again? That does wreak havoc on retirement benefits.
Retirement benefits are only useful if you live long enough to use them. Since coming to this job five years ago, I've gone from barely readable blood pressure into the early stages of hypertension. A several thousand dollar per year pay cut comes with the jump to greener pastures, and frankly I don't give a E36 M3. This place is actually killing me slowly from the stress.

Who do you work for? Insurance industry, isn't it?
Stinky goddamned customers and cars!! Good God, like 3 today!!!
- One like piss, dirty catbox piss. Both customer and vehicle.
- One like trash. Like he just jumped out of the damn dumpster. Both customer and vehicle.
- One like he just smoked 20 packs of cigarettes and his car looked like it was on fire with all the smoke billowing out from the cracked windows.
UGH!!!!
Speaking of stinky people, my work was nice enough to hire two temps who both smell unpleasant.

You too, huh?
Been here for 5.5 years, always had my doctors tell me i had the lowest blood pressure they'd seen in a long time.
Got my screening done in November for my health insurance premium credits, and just BARELY squeeked in under the acceptable cutoff.
Pre-hypertension.
Awesome.
it's the new retirement plan.. put you in an early grave

In reply to Swank Force One:
Get a new job. Seriously.
Not to dismiss the stress of work, but exercise and better eating habits can sure do a lot about high blood pressure.

I cringe when a minivan full of screaming kids comes in. I have seen and smelled some disgusting things in them.
Had a woman customer many years ago who always had baskets of dirty laundry in her car.
Another customer with a Rodeo had it full of pet food bags and empty drink cans. When I say 'full' I mean to the bottom of the windows in the rear seat and in the 'back back' cargo area, the right front floor was filled with cans all the way to the level of the console. There was an old cyclone fence gate on top of all that, probably to keep it from blowing out. Reeked like you would not believe. They wanted the A/C blower fixed, nope not gonna touch it till that right front floor area is cleared out. They got all butthurt over that one, complained to the manager, he walked out, took one look and said he agreed with the tech.

Yup. Last year I could only get my racing license for one year instead of two, thanks to this. I haven't bothered to get the physical this year because I bought a monitor and have been checking it; despite the change in diet it's still the same. I know it's the job.
Well, and the lack of excercise doesn't help, I confess. But I feel that tension the minute I reach for the power button on the work laptop. HPDE for a year and buy a treadmill along with the job change will hopefully get me back on track.

I jetted 2 months before being fully vested. So 66% instead of 100%. Not a problem, because my raise covered it. The old job sucks, and I heard today that the manager is now hanging by a thread after 2 more departures (5 person team!)
Get out while the getting is good homies.
My gripe: It sure is warm in the office today. Might have to wear shorts if this continues.
No coffee in the break room.
(Morning shifts start as early as 2AM, so coffee isn't optional)
Not like I work for a giant evil corporation or anything, they couldn't possibly afford that..
'We' trade on the NASDAQ as COST.

Go steal it off the shelves?
If it makes you feel better, I work for a company that is among the biggest in the world. We can either buy our coffee or bring it in. No free stuff, and we're not allowed to have anything* plugged in.
*don't take that too literally. Stuff like space heaters and Coffee makers are a no go. I suppose I could bring in a French Press, we do have hot water for tea...

That might be the worst part, we have cheap coffee in stock year round, all management needs to do is have one of we peons grab a can or two off the shelves and have them ring it to the warehouse account.
Thus, coffee isn't to be had until a manager needs him some bean.
:P
What if one of the containers gets damaged?

Given what he already said, I would suspect there is a pile of paperwork and return to the distribution center for a refund from the manufacturer. Nothing is free.
Well, from my experience, when it gets sent back it doesn't matter whether or not there's anything inside the container. Especially if, you know, the it gets cut open or something and breaks the seal....
and reasons 4585 to 5012 why I like to be my own boss

I'm tired. Worked 60 hour weeks from Thanksgiving till the beginning of March. Then started on 72 hour weeks till June. I'm already exhausted and it's only been about 3 weeks of this E36 M3.

You think customer cars are bad? Try going in their houses!
I had a house today that smelled like a combination of bathroom smells. I went into the little girls bedroom to install a cable box and their were chunks of dog E36 M3 on the floor EVERYWHERE. And it wasn't like the dog just E36 M3 and no one noticed, it was petrified.
Dear younger co-worker who thinks she knows it all and also thinks it is OK to talk down to others: berkeley YOU. That is all.
No advancement. I work in an "old market", entrenched management and little movement. I want to go to a "new market" where about 75% of the opportunities for movement and advancement are.
The only thing is HR REALLY doesn't like people relocating below the management level.
SO... I can't relocate till go up about 2 levels, and I have no chance to move up where I am.
And this is at a Forbes top 100 company to work for
Here's my problem today...
We are backed up with heavy line work such as everything related to diesels (only one diesel tech) I have 2 engine replacement jobs out there waiting to get done (diesel tech has both of them and is the resident engine guy too) suspension guy is backed up at least a week. I have customers calling to schedule appointments and I'm scheduling them 1-2 weeks out. One vehicle has been here 3 weeks and hasn't even been fully diagnosed yet. GM of the dealership is chewing our ass because we can't get work out. Customers chewing our ass because we can't get work out and can't get work in for 2-3 weeks at least. Techs chewing our ass because they're not getting any new work and when we do bring in new work, they're too busy to do it.
Can't berkeleying win...
I am underpaid 20% for my field (comparing to BLS-stats)
I commute an hour and fifteen minutes each way (costing me $12-$17 a day metro fare) (Washington, D.C.)
My work doesn't challenge me at all, my engineering degree is just justification for the most basic decisions.
Only pushing paper is very difficult with my ADD
I am constantly exhausted because of my commute and boredom with my job.
I think its time to start job hunting.
