I think I met a guy who has some. He got it directly from the abbey, and pretty much had to smuggle it back here. And actually at the time it was supposed to only be sold TO monks, and he pretty much had to smuggle it out of the abbey. I may be thinking of another beer, but that sounds like it. I saw it on his shelf, but never got to try it. :( .

Sounds very hipster-y.

Just watched that movie!
"We're not that drunk!"

I have not had it yet. I want to. Everything I've heard says that, yep, it is an excellent beer and definitely in the running for best in the world. Also not worth the price it commands in the U.S. (people smuggle over bottles, going rate is upwards of $60+ per bottle before this). General consensus is that there are a number of beers that are arguably of the same caliber for much less. Pretty much all the other Trappist beers are available without too much trouble in the U.S. for a heck of a lot less money.
I need to check with some friends but there is a beer that is almost identical to the Westvleterin beers because it is from a brewery started by several former monks who left the Westvleterin abbey. I forget which one it is, but I'll try to ask.
And yes, this made me get really excited and want to find some. But every place that got it sold out within hours. Maybe it's overly-hyped, but it's an opportunity to try an excellent and deservedly famous beer.

Little late on that isn't it?
I see the Total Wine down the street is getting some. If anyone wants some, I charge one bottle tax for every pack.

You need to get out more
Keep your stinky trappist abbeys. I'm counting down the hours to KBS day.
