Here in Florida I wear the old guys official uniform, Cargo shorts and a Columbia shirt.
I own 1 pair of long pants. To be fair, with a 30" inseam(on a tall day) even Daisy Dukes cover my kneecaps.
Its cargo shorts until it gets down to about 45F a couple times a year, then I dig out the long cargo shorts. The jeans only go on to go in the hot pits.

Yes, because I am not a 'fashion forward' gay Canadian. Nothing against gays or Canadians, I just learned long ago that I don't have the time or desire to try to keep up with the latest whatever. I've looked back at the horror I lived through known as the 80's. I'd rather see myself in cargo shorts than some of the stuff I wore back then.

I'm fine being a kid then. I wear shorts and crocs as long as it's over 10 degrees and I'm not in the woods or doing an activity that requires long pants.
I've been wearing shorts all winter, whenever the temp is over -5degC, just to mess with my neighbors

If my job didn't require me to wear long pants I probably wouldn't own any except for my suit.
After you've voluntarily worn spandex bike shorts in public, everything else seems like a reasonable idea by comparison. I've biked for 20+ years so I'm pretty comfortable in whatever I decide to wear, but I wouldn't go so far as to say the people around me are comfortable, lol. Which matters not at all to me. I've walked into a sports bar and had drinks wearing full tights and and an argyle print jersey. I ain't skeered.
I wear shorts all the time if it's over 70 and I'm not doing something formal or working. And sandals. I live in sandals a good bit of the year.
I'm not a fan but really, if that's the worst news you've heard all day you're having a pretty good day.

I'm not criticizing your, or anybody's use of cargo shorts. I'm legitimately surprised people are still wearing them. I tried them years ago but have short stocky legs and found them heavy, bulky and awkward.

If you are talking about the style of cargo shorts that have a complete pocket below the normal pocket, I'm with you on not liking them. The shorts I have just have an extra pocket stacked over top of the normal pocket with a velcro flap to keep it shut.
I have the same leg problem from biking and hiking. My legs are so short they barely reach the ground.
