I lived through that era too - it's all we knew. My kids laugh at my old pictures.

I've never worn short shorts by choice (gym class in the 70's)
ive never worn any of the sad 80's fashions. I've know since I was a kid I'd never impress everyone, so why try to impress anyone?
jeans, cut off if warm enough, tee-shirt, cut off sleeves (till I got too fat - and that's ME not liking my look) and flannel shirt if cold.
Denim shirts more now, cause my wife likes 'em.
Same since I started in the mid 70's. Been "in" style a couple times; out more than not!!!

Although not shy in any way shape or form, I am old, and had to go to the link... I still don't understand...
I don't have a problem with short shorts, but I was a competitive swimmer.
Hell, my hip to my knee might be the most attractive limb I own.
Have we talked about utility kilts yet? I bet we haven't. Ref: https://utilikilts.com/
I'm considered a millennial but I had no clue what chubbies (the shorts brand) until this thread. And yeah I do have body issues, I was the fat kid in high school and I'm not exactly any smaller I just wear it differently.

I would have worn them... back when I young enough to whip anyone that wanted to be to rude about it! With my Scandahoovian roots, (and strong hams) I coulda pulled the look off. But although I have rode in shorts, (I know, bad example for the novices) those would not have worked very well!
A fashion thread?
Eh, Wear what makes you feel good
I like a short that comes just to, or JUST above, the knee. Some dudes like the thigh area, some men are rocking capris trying to pass them off as shorts. Whatever you want. Im going to do me, you do you.
Just dont put stickers on your car falsley advertising for what you dont have ha

30" inseam, many years as a goaltender. I feel your pain.
I wear shorts at least half the time, if not more.
This is my go-to, Dickies carpenter shorts. I also have a bunch of Dickies work shorts as well. I'm the only guy in the shop that wears shorts at work.
I have a brown pair of the above from when I was overweight so they're a 32. I race motocross and when I practice I wear those shorts to the track, put a pair of padded shorts underneath, knee pads and MX boots. It looks like I'm wearing just a pair of shorts riding, usually with a T shirt, or tank top if it's hotter than 30c. People think I'm nuts.
I wear pants because I commute on a motorcyle almost every day, even in the wet season since it rarely rains before I have to punch the clock for The Man. I wear pants because finding shorts I like, i.e. not cargo or frat bro, relegates me to khaki or jean and I would rather wear my old PT shorts to a steak house than take the trash out in khaki shorts. Khaki is a horrific thing that should be scorched from the face of the earth, preferably with the office environment that it spawns in but that might be a bit much to ask. What's my point? If you find shorts you like, you do you. (Just don't skip leg day. Maybe do some calf raises every once in a while. And maybe invest in something other than white New Balance shoes)

OK, now I'm feeling attacked,lol.
A couple years ago I had thrown on a Polo shirt, tan shorts and a pair of white New Balance shoes. My teenage daughter took one look at me and asked if I was going to Dad-Con. She had the biggest problem with the shoes. I told her that at 5' 81/2" nobody is going to believe I belong in Air Jordans so I don't want a flashy shoe. I mostly wear my Merrell Moabs now.
