This started as a beer-induced pipe-dream a few years ago, but is turning into a "thing."
My brother (who has substantially more disposable income than I,) has started the collection. Not surprisingly, there are already a couple 1st gen CRX's in the stable, as well as my old 3rd gen civic auto-x monster.
Also, so far, an "anniversary" 300ZX (not my cup of tea but also not my car.)
VERY CLEAN Mustang SVO.
"Fatty" Starquest
Mine and my brother's tastes are a little different. I *think* all that's left on my list are CSX VNT and supercharged 1st gen MR2. Maybe a really clean Impulse and or Pulsar if such a thing exists.
Matt's more interested in Porsches, and maybe a clean IROC for giggles.
Let's call the max budget $10k per car, and no beaters or projects.
Cast some dissenting votes! Think "weird" stuff that has some "80's futuristic cool" vibes.

Don't know if you could find one for the budget, but nothing screams 1980s like the DeLorean. That car is the poster child of the 1980s.
As much as I personally don't care for them.....
If I went to an 80's car museum and there wasn't a 3rd gen Camaro with T tops I would feel cheated.
Oh, this could be dangerous...
- DTM crowd - Cossie Mercedes (Auto below 10K?), Alfa Milano
- Hot Hatches - Toyota FX16, GTI, Mazda 323 GTX, Pulsar with the truck cap accessory...
- Autobahn - E28, Audi 4000/5000 (Extra points for 5000 wagon), Saab 900 SPG
- Domestic - Olds Quad 4, Buick GN/X, Berreta GTU, Pontiac 6000s STE, Chevy Eurosport (yes, I went there..)
- Trucks - 4-Runner (with cap removed), Nissan Hardbody, Bronco II
Where do I sign up for the newsletter for this awesome museum?
Delorean has to be in there. Not sure if it fits in the 10k budget.
Also Subaru XT6
First gen Taraus SHO
Sounds awesome. These two cars were very much talked about the year I grad-gee-ated college:
The Isuzu Impulse, especially the turbo variant.
The Saab 900 Turbo.
Of course, Porsche 928 and Ferrari Testarossa and yada yada yada, but those two were "it" (and reasonably attainable) in 1985.
BMW M3
Grand National GNX
Camaro IROC- Z
Omni Shelby GLHS
Mazda 323 GTX
GTI MK1
Mustang GT 5.0
RX-7 Turbo II
Merkur XR4Ti
Acura Integra
Mitsubishi Starion
944 Turbo
Pulsar NX
Saab 900 Turbo
Subaru XT
Celica Supra
280 ZX
Great decade! (I may have accidentally blown off your budget requirements!)
RX7 GSL SE
(I don't know if you want non-US cars):
Mitsibushi Cyborg
R32 Skyline

- Any first gen RX-7
- Any RWD Corolla hatchback or coupe
- '89-91 Taurus SHO
- Ford EXP
- RWD Cadillac Brougham
- Allante
Way out of budget (but he is interested in Porsche's), but a crazy Gemballa Porsche should probably be in the museum.

Volvo 740 Turbo wagon - lines sharp enough to shave with. Also starred with other '80's icons in these ads:

My ideal is accurate to how the cars were 20 years after the 80s. Faded paint, lots of rust, broken, E36 M3 like that. And at every car there's a person there to tell you the plans he has for it he will never get to and why he wont sell it to you.
I might be bitter.
