I don't get this one. It's still the free-est place on the planet, unless you buy your own country, they you're free
actually we're not, didn't even make the top 5.
Canada, Australia and Ireland tied for fourth in new comprehensive index of human freedom; New Zealand No. 1 and the U.S. and Denmark tied for seventh
This fact saddens me.

You need to get out more often. Expats living outside the US incur a lot if tax hassles. With the US on the edge of bankruptcy, they are escalating this persecution. No other country that I know of devotes as much of its budget and technology to tracking the day to day activities and finances of its people as the USA does. Calling it "Homeland Security" does not mitigate the fact.
As to being a "Free Country" you are living on the remnants of the cold war propaganda. The US has never really been that "free" in any quantifiable measure when subjectively compared to most countries. The cold war and Readers Digest were lucky to have Russia as a foil for the entire propaganda effort.
There used to be both pride and value to traveling as an American citizen. Noways, it is more of a worldwide liability. The good news is that the Chinese are by far the most obnoxious travelers ever let loose on the planet short of locust, and are traveling en-mass; Americans will soon be welcome once again by comparison.

I'm happy with where I am, I would just love to be able to travel/do more.
travel, secure future for children, donate to charities we like, buy a few toys.
Doesn't sound like most of us are un-happy, just that there are a few things we would like to take care of.
One of my wife's best friends (bridesmaid at our wedding) called her up 10 years ago. She said, You will never guess! We were contacted by an attorney and Mom had a German uncle we did not know about. Anyway, he died and left Mom $10 million dollars and me $10 million dollars. They quickly moved from Atlanta and bought farms in Florida, and now live happily ever after.
open a marijuana dispensary and a taco stand next to eachother.

I'm pretty happy too.
I'd have to split the money about ten ways so some others I know wouldn't have to work anymore either. With my piece I would:
Remodel; the house.
Build a large vacation house on Lake George to entertain family and friends,
By a pickup and an Airstream and drive around the world.

Find some way not to pay taxes on the money, moving it to an over seas account or what ever.
Find put money away so my immediate family and I are covered for necessitates for the rest of our lives.
Move to the coast of the Georgian Bay
Use the rest to help as many other people with the biggest hardships have the most worthwhile improvement in their lives as possible for the money.
Eat a sandwich

I call BS on some of this.
Let's take somethign near and dear to many of us.
Canada is so free, let's talk about walking down a city street with a gun on your hip. Or you want a bottle of booze late on a sunday night, can't get that in your local store.
Australia. Let's build a home design Locost type vehicle. You need to get the design approved in advnace.
EDIT Being an ex-pat Brit I do appreciate the freedom available to me here.

I find it curious that the ability to handle a firearm(which you can't do in the central business district of the city I live near), booze (which, one of the most famous Whiskey makers in the country, you can't buy in the same municipality due to anti liquor laws), or a motor vehicle (have you visited California?) is what you use as examples of freedom.
One man's prison is apparently another man's Shangri-La.

I couldn't care less about open carry ( I feel there is something off in your mindset if you want people to know you're carrying, that's a flounder for another day).
I can only buy decent beer and booze M-S 10-9, not open on Sunday, along with a host of other Blue Laws that affect me.
Carry on.

I am surprised that no one has said not much would change. Is everyone that unhappy with everything? It would be nice to have that kind of security, but that much money brings on it's own issues.
I'd probably travel a bit more, and buy a few more toys, but not much else. I like my house, I like my toys, I like my current schedule...
I would have been that guy three years ago, but not now. I really do like the new job, but I'm working twice as hard for half the money (and no benefits), and my retirement's gone. And that commute..I don't know if it got worse while I was out of work, or if it was always that bad and I never realized it.
i'd hire wally as my personal jester. he makes me LOL.

Oh man, if I had Billions with a "B", I'd hire all those poor unemployed NASA guys and get Elon Musk and Burt Rutan together and start doing some real E36 M3 in space. Like space elevator, station at the LaGrange point, probes to the closest stars, mission to mars, send a dude back to the moon to stfu the tinfoil heads, get 1,000 physicists working on Alcubierre drive...

O.K. I'll play. I am a billionaire and can pretty much do what I want.
(#1) Build a smaller version of Nurburgring somewhere in the southeast where it doesn't snow. A 5 to 6 mile version should be enough. It will be open all year round and open to the general public.
(#2) Find a way to make it mandatory for everyone to attend a 3 day driving school before you obtain a car license.
(#3) Set up trust fund to make sure all the staff at GRM is taken care of and the magazine will be around for generations to come.
(#4) Fix short track racing. Spending $10,000 to build a car and race for $300 is just dumb.
(#5) Buy my way into an organization like Penske or Ganassi. It's easier than building my own race shop, and Ganassi's stock car effort looks like it could use a little help.
(#6) Find and destroy all Home Owner's Associations. You nazi bastards are done!!
Well I'm a' packin up my game and I'm a head out west
Where real women come equipped wit' scripts and fake breasts
Find a nest in the hills chill like flynt
Buy an old drop-top find a spot to pimp
Then I'm a' Kid Rock it up and down ya' block
With a bottle of scotch and watch lots a crotch
Buy a yacht with a flag that say's "Chillin' the most"
Then rock that bitch up and down the coast

Two negative things about the Nurburgring. It's all the way over in Germany. Americans, and some Canadians, deserve a place to call their own without needing a plane ticket. It's also just too darn long. Maybe I'm just another dumb, lazy American but I can't memorize 14+ miles of racetrack. I like the idea of something around 6 miles or so.
