I watched it a few weeks ago. The channel ran about 6 shows in a row. I liked the idea of running down collector cars but was turned off that it appeared that he was only doing it to turn a profit. Only time he kept a car was if it didn't sell at an auction and he decided to keep it for another time, then run it thru then.
I think the show would be more interesting if the premise was a guy who ran down unique cars for collectors to keep or restore. Gets a call, does research, follows leads and finally locates and secures a car. This guy was a little too much of a mercenary for me.
The cars in the show are great, but the way they paint the "picture" is kind of funny. For instance the episode where he brings the Morgan back to life to "race" it at Lime Rock. He keeps saying he is going racing, when it is obviously an HPDE. Funnier still was how he described the instructor as "a guy who was just walking around the paddock and asked for a ride"
I guess to preserve Wayne's machismo they couldn't admit he was a novice and needed an instructor to ride along.
I do still watch it for the cars though.
HD Theatre is doing a great job! I just love Wheeler Dealers.
this is my new favorite show
Dish network here doesn't broadcast HD Theatre but I've seen the show at my friends house. It's great.
Anyone else get this channel on Dish? If so, I can leverage my arguments to them.
yes i get it down here in Fla.
Hd Theatre channel 364, Of course you do have to have an hd tuner to get it.
I have dish and have it. I like the cars but think hes about the most boring person you could find to host a show having cool cars. Hes even worse than the guy with the crazy moustache. I guess top gear spoiled me when it comes to a fun car show to watch.
Geeeez...I didn't think anyone was worse than crazy moustache guy.....I think wayne does a pretty good job, of course seeing all the cars on the show is better.
It is still one of my favorite tv shows.

I agree with Joe, I watch for the cars. I think Wayne's a used car salesman who deals in rare, classic and exotics and if I met him in person I'm afraid I'd think he's a d-bag
like most car flippers. Wheeler Dealer's great, they're much more straight forward. By far my favorite is GT Racer the Series. This is the best program series profiling vintage racers at various tracks around the world, very well made.

There is a British show called Wheeler Dealer that sounds similar. They buy classic cars as cheap as they can get them, refurbish them a bit and try to flip them. I caught the episode where they flipped a Spitfire and a Jaguar XJS. It's a pretty good show as there is quite a bit mechanical work done on each episode. Several of them are on youtube.
I used to live about a mile from Carini's shop. I like the show primarily because of the background visible during his test drives - landmarks I used to frequent. Wayne's lot was an entertaining place to walk around when they were closed, but I was a tire-kicker so I mostly stayed clear when they were open. I got half serious once about a BMW E-9 formerly owned by Reggie Jackson, but ultimately passed. The bread and butter of the business is a collision shop that fixes everyday cars, by the way. The site was formerly a Volvo dealership, he moved in after they went belly-up.

Sorry for the hijack but I just called Dish and was told I don't get HD Theatre is because I don't subscribe to HD anything. Since I don't have any HD TVs, I didn't see a need. But all I have to do is swap out my receivers for HD types for a few bucks more a month and I"m good. WooHoo! I'm on it now.......
I find the Wheeler Dealer show more interesting. They actually add value to the cars and show what they are doing (even built a Manx clone once). They are also not terribly concerned if they don't happen to make a profit.
Carini irritates me a bit because it is clear he is just flipping cars and adding almost no value to them, basically a middle man that drives the price up.

Well, that's what the show is about. Wayne does a LOT more than just flip cars. he loves cars, and has a wealth of knowledge, and quite a personal collection of cars that weren't for sale.
He's a businessman, so profit is a motivator, which is also half the reason I built so many project cars. BUT, if it was ONLY profit, he'd not be into exotics and classics, as he doesn't make that big a percentage on them at auction.
He loves driving them, looking at them, and owning as many different kinds as possible, from lowly Fiats to high end cars like the Lusso, and the best way to do that (since there are more cars out there than you CAN ever own) is to find them, clean them up, drive them a bit, then sell them to a happy home.
And some of them he keeps for quite a while, too. He's even said a few times that if he doesn't sell a particular car, it'll be just nice to own anyhow. he doesn't buy cars that he woudn't want to own. A lot of his finds have been for specific customers, and he's gained a pretty large clientelle who have him looking for cars for their own collections.
I dunno. From what I've seen of the guy and his shop, he's a serious, knowedgeable car nut. It's a business I'd love to be in.

I DVR the show whenever I can, but typically fast forward through most of it. Wheeler dealers is good, although it's clear that the pace of the show is meant for a British market as it doesn't jive well with all of our commercials---I fast forward through the recaps and the sell-off at the end.
Very well said, that's what i get from the show as well
Finding, buying, restoring, selling and sending them to the new owners who appriciate the car for what it is. It has to be exciting to see what's under the dirty tarp, in the old barn, or what's behind the garage door - a job i would'nt mind having either.

The above is in response to Chris_V

I do the same thing you used to do. A bit "intimidating" when he's open, but when he's closed, it's face against the showroom glass, or looking under the cars outside. Just don't go too often for the local police WILL stop now adays if your looking while he's closed.
Wishe there were more episodes.
