OK, so, there is an MGB shell sitting in the warehouse and in need of an engine and transmission. What I'm possibly looking for is a 4 or 6-cylinder engine and a 5-speed transmission that I can buy for "challenge budget $$$". Whatever it ends up being, it will need to get a carb or carbs to run as I don't do FI, computers, wiring harnesses, laptop tuning. It's been suggested to find the engine/trans from a 92-94 Camaro V-6(3.4) as they can be found cheap. Unless there is a combo where the FI & computer are EASY to get running in a chassis it has no reason to be in, I'd consider it. A buddy told me 4-cylinder BMW, but my immediate thought is wiring nightmare. He seemed to believe it's pretty easy to power-up the computer with a simple 12V source and there were minimal sensors needed. Any other suggestions? This will end up as an auto-x, hill climb and possible HPDE event toy but not a street car.

You guys are going to be my best resource for this info because of the racing experience, Challenge builds and general GRM experiences.

What say you??????? What might someone have sitting in their shed, garage, under the workbench?????

The gm v6 engines are easy to get running.  It's like hook all the pink wires to ignition 12v and all the orange wires to 12v constant (or something easy like that, I might have it backwards).  Send ecu to a tuner to get them to eliminate all emissions and vss stuff for about 100$ and it will run awesome.

I have done this with 2 different 60 degree v6 gm engines and ecus into 2nd gen rx7s with that same t5 Trans that bolts to it.

Also, look at the 1997 to 2002 3800 v6 engine and t5 Trans also out of the camaro.  More hp, same work to get it sorted in the mgb.

Also, just an FYI.  The 94 through 97 3.4 v6 in the 4th gen camaro is probably a better option than the 3rd gen v6.  Same block, better intake and heads and makes mo powah baby.

Edit again to say that you can get good working Trans for 150$ and engines for 2 or 300$ complete.  Or, just buy a wrexked v6 manual 4th gen camaro for $500 and have everything including a driveahaft that you can modify.

Just recently sold a 1200 Datsun Carb to tail shaft.  Probably not enough power but it was ready to run.

Sorry no real help.
