Hey All,  moving into our new house, discovered my garage doors.  Two car garage, one door has a craftsman motor and the other a genie.  The craftsman has safety lights, the genie does not.  The doors and tracks are in really good shape, previous owner really took care of the house.  The genie side has no light beam for safety.  Has anyone retrofitted a door like this?  I haven't headed to home cheapo or lowes yet.

Thanks gang,  I'll be back with info on the garage "build."  I'm looking into a scissor lift , can't wait for that!

Usually you can buy the beam/sensors at the big box store and do a retrofit.  Check the model number on your head unit and google installation instructions.  That should give you the info you need.

I usually work with commercial openers, but all the devices are just triggers, and multiple triggering devices can be added to an opener.

Im assuming you are referring g to a standard residential style light beam mounted about 8" off the floor. Those are simple, readily available, and can be added to any residential closer (they are actually required).

On commercial doors we also use light bars, motion detectors, pressure bars, magnetic strips, touch pad access, timers, metal detectors, and wireless devices. They all do the same thing- trigger the door. Several can be added to a single door. I'm pretty sure most residential doors can use the same devices.

Good luck!
