Hey guys, I just got some berryman's chem dip, and upon opening it I noticed its a dark color and has what looks like metallic flakes floating in it. Is this normal, or did I end up with a returned product that has been used?

Sorry wasn't sure if there was a way to parse the video here directly.
Hmm okay so I found on another forum someone mention that the chem dip has little gold flakes in it, which is what mine has as well. I guess thats normal?
Yes, that's what mine looked like too.......nasty looking stuff but it does work.

Not as good as it once did. It used to have methylene chloride in it I think.
Yeah, I bought mine in the early 90's, so.......
It shouldn’t have metallic flakes—sounds like it might have been used or contaminated. You might want to contact the seller or Berryman directly to confirm.

Just read up on this stuff. Seems like nasty stuff to have around. The bit about not storing it on a metal shelf was worth learning. Anything that has to be stored in a fume-hood is probably best not to have in my shop. This does NOT read like a product that would be used in most day-to-day mechanic shops.
Safely:
- Always use rubber gloves when handling.
- Keep the area well-ventilated by either using the product outdoors, or opening up doors and windows.
- When storing this product, it must be placed on a surface made of non-conductive material — such as wood, cardboard or plastic. Do not store Berryman Chem-Dip on a concrete floor or metal surface. If you do so, the compounds within it will react and may become deactivated, causing the product to lose its effectiveness.
- When using Chem-Dip, keep the container in a hood or lab bench area that reduces the possibility of accidentally knocking it over.
