I've found that CM doesn't always pick up changes if I haven't packed the data.

If there is a data.acd file  (if someone else previously packed the data) it will override the unpacked settings.

Ok, I just loaded the "marks version" back on the sim and somehow it has abs and traction control so something is over riding this version. It still has the old wheels so I know it is the old version. I see a data.acd file, how do I fix this? Can I just delete the data.acd file?

Yes.  Or repack data.  Either one.

I did an experiment where I just deleted the data.acd file and that fixed everything. No more lack of power, no more problems with TC on. I should have tried that on the latest version, probably would have fixed that, too

There you go!!!

BTW, we are racing tonight.  You should join the Discord and show up.  You don't have to race.  You can just hang out.  All the guys that have been working on your car should be there (all in one place) so you can get quick answers about things, and we can also pick your brain if needed.  If you want to log into our server, you would have to download the car pack and the track if you don't have the one we are racing.  We could discuss your car some more.  I would put up a 2nd server, and we could mess around with that after the race.  The instructions for that are in the other thread.

Once you join Discord, one of us must authorize you to access the other parts of the chat channels.

You can also watch our racing.  It can be very entertaining!!

You should load up the version #5 and delete the data file and see how that works.  You will get a mesh error but it loads up fine for me even with the mesh error.

I was talking to Piguin last night and he and I went through my entire car library and we were able to pick out 2-3 rim/tire choices from a couple cars that are very close to your car.  He was going to take those and move them to your car model.  This should work much better as it is using ACC models not something like a model from grab cad.  He was also going to see about shortening the cowell on the hood a bit.  Hopfully we may be able to have the bulk of this all wrapped up and then it will just be tweeking the suspension and what not.

On another note I was hammering your car around Watkins glenn and the suspension really gets upset if you are hammering the curbs hard through there. Is this normal?  For me it was as if the car was under dampened.  When we get the major stuff sorted and the car mimics your current setup we may be able to have some of the really good drivers that run with us take your car for a ride and let them make adjustments and see if they can improve things (or not).  It would give you a literal simulator of your car that would then let you test changes before you actually install them.  That would be really cool!!!!

In reply to dean1484 :

Can you rename the pertinent file names in version #5 so we can add it without overriding the Loosecannon_Camaro we have in them now? I ripped around the Norschleife and Road Atlanta in it today and you are right, it doesn't like curbs but I have never had it on a road course IRL so I can't tell you, but it is not overly stiff (feels like a 911 GT3RS for stiffness) and the Penskes do a very good job of damping a bumpy autocross surface.

This all sounds great except my sims are at my business (Speedworld Indoor Kart Track) and need to be available to customers.

Easy enough to do.  I can just re name the base folder and it will extract to the new folder name. It will most likley show up as a 2nd copy of the car with the same name.  To change the name of the car as it shows up in CM that is a bit more complicated and will require changing the name in at least three places with in the data files.  Not hard I ahve been told but I have not done it.

I tested the car at Lime Rock today specifically to get it better at going over curbs. In the end, maxing out the bump and rebound front and rear reduced how upset it got going over the curbs and I then drove it on the Nordschelife and it was better there, too. I could be flat on the gas across that last curb before the start/finish straight at Lime Rock and that was certainly not possible before. I looked at the data file to see about changing the base damper settings but wasn't sure what to do so I left it. I noticed there were all kinds of settings for location of control arms and stuff and I have all that info, would it make handling more accurate to change those?

We could rename the next version 'Casper' so it wouldn't overwrite the previous versions. I think.

In modeling news, I have lowered the cowl and tried on the new wheels, but I've hit a snag with the cockpit mirror. After trying various things and failing, I imported the original model in blender and exported it without touching anything - and it broke it again. So at least i know it isn't something I did by mistake, but unsure how to proceed from there, especially since I can't figure out why only the interior mirror stops working while the side one works.

In reply to Piguin :

Something to do with surface/material type or the mirror texture maybe? Or maybe the surface name doesn't match what's in the mirrors config file?

In reply to GameboyRMH :

I have absolutely no idea. I couldn't find any differences when checking materials in KNedit between the original fbx that CM exports (which can be repackaged through KNedit with the mirrors working properly) and the untouched but imported - exported through blender one (in which the inside mirror only doesn't work).

This is exactly what happened to me when I swapped wheels on the RX7.  No body changes whatsoever but somehow the mirror texture broke on one but not all mirrors.

The editing tools are frustratingly clunky.

Yup, they are.

I guess it is too much to hope for that you eventually figured out the issue?

The most annoying thing is that so far my google-fu has failed me, I can find a ton of issues but none that relate to the mirrors

I don't recall if I figured it out.  I'll try and catch up on all this once I get back home.

Honestly I want to properly sort the suspension first.

What are you trying to do with suspension? Do you need more data from me about the car? BTW, the weight (1575 Kg) in the file is 75 Kg too high, the car is 1500 Kg with me in it

TravisTheHuman
TravisTheHuman MegaDork

Yeah sorry about that, content manager autocorrected it (75kg for driver)

the suspension is too close to the bump stops when I set the ride height correctly.  Might need more data once I dig into it

Here are screenshots from my suspension analyzer program, it plots all the important data points of the front and rear suspension. Units are in inches

I stiffened the dampers and increased the diff coast (to improve stability under braking) and the car is a lot better around the Nordschleife, I got it down to a 7:36 but I know there's at least another 3 seconds to take off. That bump steer it experiences is not present in the real car and I suspect it's because the sim version is still using 68 Camaro suspension geometry. Looking at the data, everything seems recorded in metric so I converted my measurements to metric and here they are

Ok guys, I need your help to calm my wife down. We have 4 sims and on one of the sims, hitting the brakes on the Camaro does almost nothing. I can see that the brakes are fully applied because the brakes indicator bar thingy is showing full red. The brakes work fine on every other car on the sim, it's only the Camaro that is messed up. We have deleted every file with the Loosecannon_Camaro file name and reloaded the file that works on every other sim but the same problem occurs. My wife is pissed because she thinks I adjusted something on the sim or AC settings but I've only ever adjusted the data file for the Loosecannon_Camaro file. Any ideas?

Do you somehow have the brake power in the setup turned all the way down?
