We found some great cars and had some really great racing. Racebrick and I had a great battle that lasted an entire race and for the lead as well!!!   Racebrick was faster but I was playing defense. The over under was in play as well. He eventually got me but we had a great race.

I ran a few laps on the server last night, it's a pretty fun track. It's one where I wish I had some more tuning adjustments, just some minor gearing tweaks would go a long way.

Brad, here is my lap from CMP.  Of note, I was struggling a bit with some suspension changes made in the off season that made the car bouncy as hell, brake bleed issues that caused a dead zone and inconsistent brake application, and some alignment settings that apparently slipped because the car had a TON of toe in in the rear (like 4x what it should have been) which made it plow something serious.  Oh, and the car didn't have a tune in it, it had been diagnosed with a bad ECU shortly before the event so it had a stock tune with the rev limit bumped which is why the CEL is on.  Not that I'm making excuses or anything...

To expound a bit, apex curbs are not terrible and can be used judicously, but exit curbs are both rough and slick as hell.  If you hit an exit curb and are not already pointed back on track, you won't be by the end of the curb because you're just going to go straight.  For T1 the ideal brake point is the beginning of the cut through and should be easily doable with your car, it's what I would usually use but with the brake problems I was having a little early was much less of a loss of time than braking too late and getting behind for the T2/T3 complex.

T2 should be flat and just getting back to the right for T3, and T3 should just be a lift.  T4 is a mild brake, go over the curb and brake straight at the curb for T5.   The carousel is actually harder now, there used to be a repaved patch that was a great landmark but after the repave it's more by feel.  The ideal line is roughly wide exit for T5, then mid track for the rest until you come down into the apex for T7 which is the end of the carousel.  At exit do NOT follow the left edge of the track towards T8, from the exit of T7 find the end of the guard rail on the left side of T8 and that is your target, done right you should only need minimal steering input between the exit of T7 and the braking zone for T8.

T8 is crucial as it's the turn that goes into the longest acceleration zone.  Precision is key here, you have to put your right side tires basically against the curb as that is where the biggest camber gain is.  Anything outside of that is giving up grip, and the apex curb is big enough to upset the car if you hit it.  Brake zone recommendation is around the 300 but NOT with a full brake, it's an early but not 100% brake to balance the car better coming in.

The kink is something you work up to doing faster, not ideal for One Lap but getting it wrong is high risk.  Start with a lift (you should absolutely not need to brake) and then work up to faster speeds.  Ideally you would be able to take it flat but you're introducing risk and the timing is crucial.  If you get it wrong and drop a wheel at exit GO STRAIGHT and gradually woah it down.  If you try to bring it back on track immediately you run the risk of ending up on your lid on the front straight.  I've seen it happen and it isn't pretty, granted that was before the repave when the kink got to be less of a car eater, but the effect if you run wide is the same.  The advice still stands and the apex curb at the kink will no longer kill you but it isn't a turn to be taken lightly.

T11 brake point is probably around the 250 depending on how fast you take the kink, you want to take a very late apex and do not track out all the way.  You can be on the right half of the track, but ideally you should be right side of the car on the right side of the center line.

T12-13 just keep it at tight as possible, tracking out for the entry to T14.  T14 is more than 90* so treat it at such, super late turn in and apex and try to get to power as early as possible.   If you turn in when you can still see the corner station you're too early.  Then straight line to the finish.

Current situation:

Sauce has a 3 point lead for the win over Dean, which mean if Dean finishes 1st, Sauce would need to finish 2nd, or Dean will win.  Dean of course will have a 2 hooker advantage.   The other race to look at it is the charging Racebrick and me.  He is only 3 points back, so could easily take 3rd with a win (and screw Dean in the process).

So, who wants it?  Who will be spending a bit more time practicing?

I listened to the hijinks last night, but wasn't able to join in.  My wife had a work thing and didn't get home until 10, so I was single dad last night and had to get both boys in bed.

I did run the real Mini through a pretty fast Autocross this weekend.  It is a lot more balanced and neutral than our model.  Hard acceleration into hard braking, you can feel the backend get a bit lighter, but it never felt unstable or uncontrollable.  Actually, I think it is more controlled than with the stock setup.  I think the coilovers and springs help to minimize the weight transfer under hard braking.  Maybe manage is a better word than minimize.  It also probably has a lot to do with the age and wear of the stock components.  I didn't get any videos, but you can see the course here: https://youtu.be/ncRKwvhzZVw  I think the Mini had considerably less understeer than this Z06, so that is saying something.

Thanks for everyone throwing in and making this series happen.  I really enjoyed it and appreciate the support for the One Lap effort.  The bad news is I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about being able to compete in the real event.  The wait list isn't moving very fast and we are still at #21 and only 2 weeks from the start.  My dad (Argo) has a doctor thing that needs to be scheduled on 4/19, we've set our OLOA commitment date to the 18th.  Basically, if we haven't been confirmed in 4 days we are going to withdraw from this year's event and try again next year.  The good news here is that I can predict a future AC series!

Thanks everyone that joined in for this series!!!! Big thanks to Air and Pro for there work on the cars to make this series happen!!! I had some really great racing through the course of this and can not wait for the next series!!!

Speaking of that there is a sampling of some of the cars up on the server from the car pack we are looking at. All 90s erra cars. All appear to have been performance balanced very well. I only put up about half of them.

Brad this series was great fun. Thanks for challenging us to make it happen. I hope you continue showing up. The more people that join in the better.

For anyone new to this beginners are encouraged to join us and Pro sim drivers are welcome as well. (We need someone to make Matt, Racebrick and Pro work for it.)

This week we are going to test a modified HC system.  We plan on doing 3-4 races each will be rather short with the HC applied between races. The goal is to see if we can tighten up the field a bit faster making closer racing. It should be fun.

Points:  Point are accumulated base on the finishing order of the average of the two races (ties going to the better finisher of the first race).  1st place scores 10 pts, 2nd 8 pts, then 6,5,4,3,2,1 and zero after that.

Drops:  One drop per driver will be allowed.  Lowest point finish for series will not be counted.

Handicaps: Finishing 1st on a race day will result in 2 HC steps.  Finishing 2nd is one HC step.  Finishing 4th or lower will reduce you HC by 1 step.

Restarts and Yellow Flags:  Restarts can be called for with the consensus of the racers when the beginning of the race results in a significant crash.  Yellow flags can be called for with the consensus of the races and will require the lead car to slow until the pack has gathered (in single file), then the leader will initiate the re-start.

Courtesy Waits and Penalties: When a drivers action causes another driver to be forced off the course, or loose positions, it is suggested the offending driver wait for the affected driver, and let them ahead of them.  Penalties may be given out for serious offenses.  Penalties (determined by majority of drivers) will involve a lose of 2 points.

It would be well deserved, the Red Baron engaged the Tangerine Torpedo in some Verstappen style sending it down the inside.

Oh, yes, you are correct.  Tie points, but I did finish in front of him for the final race, so I take second.

And now, some highlights (the cameras are pretty bad at this track so we get the following shots):

Here are some potential Point / HC schemes.  Obviously we need a car(s) that have enough room (power) to step them down maybe 6 steps and step maybe at least 4?  The Streetcar pack should work for that, most are in the 350 hp range.

Any thoughts?

BTW, the thought for the next season is to put up a list of what are effectively a large "best of" list of street cars (mostly 90's, but some earlier), which are all already performance equalized (and very tunable).  Everyone picks a favorite car, ideally by personal taste, not extensive testing.  We can certainly allow for changing cars, but I "think" with tuning and just learning the cars should be good enough in most cases (maybe even the BMW that Sauce seems to hate).

We will also need a track list.  We can throw in a few Gran Tourismo tracks (since these are basically GT famous cars), but anything will do, and maybe a good mix of small and large would be good.  So, any likes or suggestions, or wanna try are useful.   We can certainly test any unknowns.

Car choices are going to be tough there are so many good ones.  Gameboy in the skyline is going to be tough to catch if the after race testing last Wednesday is any indication of how fast he will be.
