Found a very high mileage 1995 900ss/cr with sp front brakes and lowish compression for low money ($500) By high mileage I mean 107k!! So it needs a rebuild or a replacement. I've never heard of a duc with over 100k (I know they exist, though) These 2v a/c engines are very stout (probably ducs best) so do I re-ring and het the heads done or just buy a low mileage used or do a 944 conversion or p/c set or........
I love the look of the 1/2 fairing on the CR. You could probably pick up a low mileage motor for less than the cost of a rebuild kit. Would a 1000cc DS motor bolt in?
I would think that any air cooled motor would work. Hard to find, though. I've been looking. These engines seem to last a looooong time when well maintined. There are ones with over 250k. One good upgrade would be FCR 41s. The mikunis just aren't great, from what I'm seeing. Hard part is that the FCRs are well north of a grand. And hens teeth in the used market.
After an 11 hour drive, it is now safely at my house.
Thanks. Is there a theme of bringing back to life forgotten Ducs?
My 1st project is head studs and an inspection of the heads and jugs.

I'm all about the 944 upgrade, myself. ![](https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/prod.mm.com/uploads/2018/05/05/1525562408_fb_img_1525562175990_mmthumb.jpg)

Enough to notice. The cams are also upgraded, and there is different map on the computer. (It's a 2000)
Is it fuel injected? If I do 944s I'm thinking a modded st2 set up.
What 944 kit did you use?

Bought completed nearly a decade ago, unfortunately. It was too good of a deal to pass up.
Cooter, that bike looks fantastic. So what is it exactly? I don't speak Duc very well so I don't know what a 944 conversation is. What did the frame leave the factory as?
It's a 2000 900 monster. The 944 kit is a 944cc kit. The Duc ST2 is a water cooled engine but the pistons and cylinders can work in an air cooled 2v with the coolant passages closed and the oil passages opened up.
