I know Harleys don't get much love here but seeing if I could get some help diagnosing an issue.
I recently changed out the lifters in my 96 Fatboy due to one of them failing. I also changed to an S&S breather. I have put about 200 miles on it since then. Today while riding it suddenly lost power and died.
Symptoms:
Sudden power loss and dieing
Sounds like it is backfiring out of carb
Spewing oil out of air cleaner breather
Can restart but will not stay running.
Any ideas?
Adjustable pushrods? One came loose?
Yes it has adjustable pushrods I had just adjusted them but will check them again.
The cam position sensor plate hasn't moved so ignition timing shouldn't have moved. It's an Evo so the cam is gear driven not sure how it could move timing without a major failure. I will be pulling the nose cone to check it though.
Bentwrench you called it. The front exhaust pushrod had shortened itself about 2 inches.

well guess i'm an hour and a half late... Did it bend or did the adjuster just screw in? blue lock tight on jam nuts or if you can find it purple self wicking.
I believe it just screwed in. Didn't appear to be bent I so adjusted it back out and the bike fired off with out any issues. I checked to make sure they were all tight. Next day off I will go through and readjust and Loctite all 4.

Just don't use red and you'll be good.
This sound like a job for a nyloc nut.
Harley's get lots of lovin' here. Bunch of us with them.
Glad you found the issue. Also, make sure you have a little loctite on the lifter block screws. They can come loose on you.

is where you wanna hang out for all things Evo.
Yeah the lifter blocks got blue Loctite when I put them on. Didn't do the pushrods but will now.
