Has anyone here attended a Moto GP race at Indy? I'm kicking around the idea of going in 2013, so I'm interested in any information on attending the event - hotels, do's, don'ts, etc. I have never been to Indy, so any information is more than I have today.
Been to the event every year, but not always the race. I like it, the racing is more interesting than F1 ever was on Indy's road course, and the individual races are more bite-sized than Indycar and NASCAR races there.
This year, I skipped the race day, and went to qualifications on Saturday. A lot less traffic, though MotoGP traffic in general is far better than any other race I've been to at Indy. I would suggest making it at least a two day outing. On quals day, you can hit the vendor marketplace, the museum, and tickets are not-assigned, so you can go check out the view from several different stands.
On race day, my favorite seating area is high on the outside of what is Turn 4 for the oval course (not sure of the turn number for the road course). You can see down the front straight, plus probably 1/2 to 1/3 of the infield turns.
Make sure to stick around for the XR1200 races. Its kind of weird seeing Harley Sportsters on a road course. Its even weirder that they are the quietest bikes racing during the weekend.
Edit: Oh yeah, if you want to get out of the track quickly, don't park in the infield, or (on race day) the lot across from the front straight. Its faster to walk a couple of blocks and hop in your car than it is to fight the exit traffic. On the practice and qualification days, parking in the lot in front of the track is no big deal traffic-wise, but you can also park for free on side streets a few blocks away.

Thanks for the good information. I guess I'll start planning on attending; then, figuring out if I want to venture to the race on my cycle or in my truck.

Just a word of warning regarding the bike. I don't know how it has been in subsequent years, but the first year of the event there were a ton of bike thefts. Rumors I heard were that a criminal gang from Chicago came down prepared and stole a bunch. I haven't heard about problems since, though.

With good insurance, that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing
