I think this is the third or fourth rendition of Norton's return. That 961 was a cover bike about 7 years ago. Kenne Dreer's brain child. Bought, sold, etc etc. I'll believe it when it's in production.
And why not go to a monoshock? Surely there is a reason that nearly all modern sport bikes comes with them.

Because it's a Norton, I think.
There was a big article about Norton in the last issue of Motorcycle Classics magazine. The current bike is based on the Kenny Dreer version, but the new company says most parts have been modified or improved. Here's an article from their website, along with a video: http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/motorcycle-reviews/the-norton-961-commando-in-america.aspx

I am pretty sure they have started production but it isn't available in the US yet.
They are available in the US and a base model sold for around $17,000. I think this was posted on British Car Forum. I would rather have a well restored original for half the money.
I really don't like the rear end of any of these super bikes.
wasn't Norton working on a ~900cc wankel-powered race bike at some point? I know it was one of the brit manufacturers, I just don't remember which one

Yes, they were pretty successful race bikes back in the 1980s. They also had a street bike version, some of which were used as police bikes in europe.
