I was struggling to get an accurate measurement of the distance under my sink up against the cabinets, and couldn't fit my tape measure in there.

To make something to transfer the measurement to the piece I was cutting, I wound up taking two sections of All-Thread, firmly zip tying them to each other.  Then I could jam the setup into the area, and simply rotate one section of all thread one direction to make it longer, the other to make it shorter.   Once it was fit up just right, I pulled it down, and transferred that length to the piece I was cutting.

If you're not a savage, you can even cut the tails off the zip ties.

Hopefully this can help someone else out of a tight spot!

You made a simple version of telescoping bore gauges. Nice.

That's brilliant!

An aside, if you need to get a quick OD of something, use a wrench.  You'll know instantly if that sway bar is an 18mm or a 19mm, or if those fuel lines are 8mm or 7mm...

You'll need to log in to post.
