get a med . deep plastic tray, fill full of sand.. press the steel plate into the sand.. aragange as needed.. spot weld.. remove adjust as needed. spot weld... clean,, then finish the weld... if you have cats , as i do, or have cats nearby... cover the sand box.... after i was done welding and doing something else.. my cat was looking at in a... well you know
