I'm coming from Chatsworth, GA to Charlotte for a race on the Roval at the end of June. Trying to decide which route to take, and what I should do or where I should eat on the way. What says the hive? I can go south to Gainesville, GA, then hit I-85 and head up, or I can go through the Nantahala, up to Asheville, then continue to Hickory and come down, or from Asheville I can go to Hendersonville and go through Shelby. Thanks!
Very different drives. Wife's hometown was Waynesville/Maggie Valley, so I've seen a lot of these routes. If in a hurry, 85, but that's not ever going to be my first choice.
I'd opt for the Asheville route. Its more scenic, and it won't be as fast as Google Maps says. I did it last year Asheville to Blue Ridge. I-85 might be faster, but it is I-85.
Go gorge, take a stop at NOC.
Yes! The stop at Natahala Outdoor Center was why that route takes longer. But worth it.
Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to do that. Put the top down on the Z4, have some fun going up through there. I think I'll spend the night in Asheville, there are some cool places to eat, stuff to see, then drive on to the race track Thursday morning for the load in/set up stuff. I'll be in Charlotte with two nights, we're doing a 12 hour race on Saturday, then probably head home Sunday unless there's something I need to see Sunday before heading home. Any recommendations for food in Asheville or Charlotte?
