  • Do you tow a racecar or boat on occasion, but don't want to own a pickup truck?
  • Does the option to have a vehicle with comfortable seating for 5, and seating for 7, in a pinch, appeal to you?
  • Do you want to go play off road and/or just do overland stuff?
  • Do you like luxury vehicles, but a Land Rover out of warranty sounds like a one way trip to bankruptcy?
  • Are pickup trucks WAY too big for your liking?
  • Are you looking for a comfortable daily driver that can also do all of the things listed above?

If any of the above things apply to you, there's a good chance you've probably considered a Lexus GX in your search for a vehicle.

I wanted to gather Links together here that aren't specific to my issues, and will hopefully shine a bigger light on the fantastic guides, information resources and other things the GXOR community have pulled together over the years which really sign a good light on the positives and negatives of the GX460 platform.

I Purchased a 2013 Lexus GX 460 in October 2023. My Build/ownership thread is Here.

Here's the other GX460 thread already up on the Forum started by Hoondavan

Great vehicles, both the GX470 and newer 460.

I would have one for all the reasons you mentioned (right size, comfy, Toyota reliability...),

But, living in the land of salt means a real risk of frame disintegration. Also, they are fuel thirsty for their size.

I did look at several 2005-2011 Lexii and Sequoia a couple years ago when it was time for a new tugboat. It turned out the cheapest rust free SUV that could tow 6000# was a Mercedes. Less than BMW X5, Porch Tiguan, VW toe-rag, GX470...  But I still threaten the Merc with GX replacement if she gets too troublesome smiley

Anyways, interested in seeing what you do with your Land Cruiser build. Please carry on.

So, it's funny you mention the fuel economy, for what it's capable of doing, it's actually one of the best platforms there is.

Only the newest pickups and SUVs are getting better than the 20mpg hwy the GX is capable of.

Part of why i settled on buying one was the fuel economy, it's a great way to lay down miles, and 20 mpg means it stings a little bit compared to economy cars, but could be a lot worse.
