Are live auctions still relevant in 2023? If Hagerty’s report of the recent sales at The Amelia are anything to go by, the answer is a resounding yes, with a total of $178.4 million–a new overall record for Amelia Island.
While there seemed to be a jump in the quality of cars, the quantity of cars to sell didn’t increase significantly, according to Hagerty, as neither buyers nor sellers were in a rush to add to their collections or downsize their current stock.
The total sales weren’t the only records set during the Amelia weekend, though. Ferrari had a strong showing, with a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider setting an Amelia record after selling for $18 million. Two Dinos, a 206 GT and an original “chairs and flairs” 246 GTS also set records after selling for $868,500 and $967,500, respectively.
On the record-breaking front, an AMG Hammer sedan sold for $775,000, followed some 20 lots later by an AMG Hammer Coupe selling for $885,000. An Acura Integra Type R also broke a previous sales record, selling for $151,200.
