Corvette: known around the world as the American sports car–and certainly an American icon. This year is the 60th anniversary of this great sports car, and it’ll also be the year the latest in the series is released: the technologically advanced C7. The Corvette was an obvious choice to be honored at this year’s Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, and a good deal of them participated in the event. Of the 355 entries, 32 were Corvettes of different vintages, from the early solid-axle production models of the ’50s to the tube-framed, purpose-built IMSA monsters of the late ’80s.
Perfect weather, a great race track and 15 race groups provided attendees with oodles of action. Fans were treated to great wine and food at the Wine Country Pavilion in the paddock. They also enjoyed a very entertaining seminar with former Corvette drivers Bill Pollack, Paul Reinhart, Joe Freitas, Dick Guldstrand and Tony De Lorenzo. Another highlight was the Saturday evening race car tour to the nearby city of Sonoma and the Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery.
