A Porsche 917K, Cobra works race car, Zagato-bodied Aston and more | RM Sotheby’s and Russo and Steele

One of our favorite activities during Monterey Car Week? Looking at some of the most valuable and desirable cars on the planet, all in one space–and for sale, no less.

We left our checkbooks at home so we wouldn’t be tempted, but here are some of our favorites we spotted at both RM Sotheby’s and Russo and Steele’s Monterey sales:

A 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra works race car piloted by Ken Miles and Bob Bondurant to nine podium finishes that year.

A 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Competizione with class wins at Le Mans, Spa and Imola.

A 1970 Porsche 917K driven by David Hobbs and Mike Hailwood at that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans–estimated selling price of $16 to $18.5 million, the most valuable lot in the sale.

A 1962 Aston-Martin DB4GT noted as one of 19 built by Zagato and one of only six configured with left-hand drive.

A 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo regarded as a very original and well-preserved example.

A replica 1967 Ferrari P4 that features a period-correct Ferrari V12 engine.

A 1964 Jaguar-Kougar, a British-built fiberglass kit car powered by a 3.8-liter, Jaguar S Type inline-six.

A 2008 Tesla Roadster, the very first model ever sold by Tesla, with less than 50,000 miles since new.
