Think you need a recent restoration to win Best of Show? A 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Cabriolet by Stabilimenti Farina last restored more than 25 years ago won Best of Show at the 2025 Amelia Concours d’Elegance.
Of course, a unique history helps, too. Originally a factory-backed race car and believed to be a prototype model built for the 1938 Mille Miglia, this 8C 2900B was given to Giuseppe Farina, son of Stabilimenti Farina founder Giovanni Farina.
As such, the Alfa Romeo was uniquely configured as a right-hand-drive, four-seat cabriolet and outfitted with stingray upholstery.
The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Cabriolet was entered by Alejandro Tonda Keller, grandson of the late Arturo Keller–owner of the Keller Collection at the Pyramids–who passed away last year.
As for the Concours de Sport Best in Show, that award went to a 1967 Lotus 49 Formula 1 car driven by Jim Clark to victory at the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix as well as the 1968 British and U.S. grands prix.
Chris MacAllister, president of MacAllister Machinery and the owner of the Lotus 49, credits a fourth grade field trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for igniting his passion. “I went to the race that year, in 1965,” explains MacAllister “and Jimmy Clark won. So he became my hero. And he’s still my hero.”
