Car Catcher: A 1967 Fiat 600 Pocket Rocket

Sponsored article presented by eBay Motors.

If you think the concept of a hot hatch is a relatively recent idea, this 1967 Fiat 600 from eBay Motors might try to prove you wrong.

Said to be built using "the highest quality components including genuine Abarth components," the listing also reports that over $100,000 have been put into the build.

Power comes from a 1.0-liter Autobianchi inline-four that's listed as being capable of 113 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the stripped-out interior comes equipped with a full roll cage vintage-style race seats.

Also included in the $33,900 sale is a full record of the build.

Insuring your classic car investment may cost less than you think. Learn more.

I know every square millimeter of this car. Ransom and I designed the suspension,  I fabricated, machined and installed it.

This thing is genuinely rapid. Explosive even.

It is very much an SCCA vintage race car that happens to have had all the requirements to be street legal bolted back in place. The rear windows are still lexan!

I really wish we could have finished the car properly but the owner had worked a trade deal on it so it had to go.

Make it a little more steetable is what I was eluding to. There were plans to add some more interior to quiet it down as it is race car loud inside. I had to wear earplugs while driving it.

I also wanted more time to dial in the spring rates and play with the alignment.

The new suspension was an amazing improvement and we would have loved to have the time to get it back on the track to really dial it in. With a little more dialing in that car could be an absolute weapon.

It should be obvious that a car can't be a "hot hatch" if it isn't even a hatchback. Nothing against this car... just the nonsense statement in the article. The eBay listing uses the more rational term "pocket racer".

Does that mean that a Dodge Colt is a pony car....?
