Complete collection of René Lalique mascots up for auction

They certainly don’t make mascots like this anymore. And rarely do you see an entire collection go up for sale together. That’s the case for 31 mascots created by French glassmaker, jeweler and medalist, René Lalique. Bonhams will be auctioning the collection on Thursday, December 19, with an estimated value of $800,000-$1,200,000.

Renard alone sold for $338,500 in 2012. John du Pont–yes, the heir to the du Pont fortune who was also a convicted murderer–once owned it.

In Bonhams Magazine, Lalique glass expert Eric Knowles said Victoire “offers the most dramatic expression of speed … forever referred to by collectors, dealers and Lalique enthusiasts alike as the ‘Spirit of the Wind.’”

One of our personal favorites is the Hibou, which possesses incredible detail on the wise, yet curious owl.
