Deep Purple: Classic Rock, Classic Jaguars?

Classic rock? Classic cars? Must be a Deep Purple concert. On this go-around, billed as The Long Goodbye Tour, they’re (again) kicking off the set with “Highway Star,” the opening track from “Machine Head,” their 1972 landmark release.  The background video features dueling Jaguars–Jaguars wearing numbers and class designations. Anyone know the original source of that footage?

Not our video–and not even from last night–but you get the drift.

Those class letters mean this was filmed in the USA with SCCA production classing, probably 1954 -57. Probably west coast. Paramount Ranch comes to mind because of the wall along side, but there may have been other tracks with such a feature out west. Also Paramount Ranch was already a movie set, so there could be some extra footage around. Also note both cars are left hand drive.

I can't remember the name of the movie but it has a name that was reused for a later remake that is nothing like the first other than name. First one in the the late 50's early 60's the remake about 50 years later. It's been talked about here before a couple years ago.

Sure, Deep Purple is far and away the better band, but I prefer my Jaguars with more Whitesnake.

I think you solved the mystery: The 1955 version of The Fast and the Furious, perhaps?

I was hoping to see some purple Jaguars in this thread.

So, here's a few.

Thanks for sharing. Nice. Love the XKE. (Although, seriously, what color doesn't look great on that shape?)

You know, I never thought of myself as a Deep Purple fan. I saw them last year--co-headlining show with Judas Priest--and was like, dang, this is a stellar performance. Also, by guitar teacher says that Steve Morse is the best guitarist out there.

"Better than Jimmy Page?" I asked.

"Yes, better," he said.

In reply to David S. Wallens :

That's the one I was thinking of.

Thought it was "Fast and Furious" but wouldn't come up with my bad google-foo.
