HSR NASCAR Classic: A new home for retired NASCAR stock cars

What happens to NASCAR stock cars after they retire? Historic SportsCar Racing has a new solution: The HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Petty’s Garage.

Created in response to the rapid growth in popularity of HSR’s Group 8 Historic Stock Cars category–by both competitors and fans–the NASCAR Classic welcomes any car “built to previous NASCAR rule book specifications for Cup, Xfinity, Truck and ARCA competition."

Creating a dedicated series for classic stock cars was “an easy decision,” said HSR President Chris Ward, citing “the across-the-board support for and the rapid growth of the HSR Classic Stock Cars category.”

Ward also notes that the growth in popularity of classic stock cars can be attributed to HSR’s partnership with the Historic Stock Car Racing Association and the several events the two organizations have held together:

We have experienced this incredible growth and popularity with several HSR Historic Stock Cars showcase events in the last few years, particularly in partnership with the HSCRA. We can’t thank enough HSCRA Founders Chris Evans and Carlus Gann and all of the HSR Group 8 competitors, and we look we forward to continuing to race with them in the HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Petty’s Garage series for many more years to come.”

The NASCAR Classic presented by Petty’s Garage will hold its debut race alongside the IMSA Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway, August 23-24.

Also on the 2024 HSR NASCAR Classic schedule are races coinciding with the NASCAR Go Bowling at The Glen at Watkins Glen and the NASCAR Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, set for September 13-14 and October 11-12, respectively.

At the Daytona and Sebring HSR events this year I saw a bunch of NASCAR Stock Cars and I am excited to see more. The sound they make going around the track is stunning.
