You don’t need a time machine to relieve the 50-plus year history of IMSA, you just need to attend the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Introducing the Historic Sportscar Racing IMSA Classic, a new vintage racing event that will join the 24-hour race weekend starting with next month’s 2025 Rolex 24.

Short exhibitions of vintage race cars like the have become commonplace ahead of the IMSA season-opener at Daytona, but the HSR IMSA Classic aims to offer much more, celebrating IMSA’s rich racing history in the best way possible: by racing vintage race cars.

We often refer to HSR as a rolling time machine and a high-speed motorsports museum,” said HSR President Chris Ward. “And that will be perfectly personified by the IMSA Classic.”

This will be the first time an actual race featuring these great competition cars from IMSA’s past will be part of a Rolex 24 At Daytona weekend,” adds IMSA President John Doonan. “What better time to take a moment to remember our past than just before our longest and season-opening race?”

The first IMSA Classic will focus on race cars from 1973 through 1993–future editions are planned to feature more specific eras of cars–and consists of a 30-minute race on Saturday morning.

While applications for entry are currently available only by invite, competitors will be paddocked in a large tent located in the Rolex 24 Midway that will be open to the public. The racers will also be joined by a number of historically significant non-competing cars.
